Legacy's plenty good, but I feel the Uprising cartoon really elevates it. Definitely watch both, those're the peak of the franchise. Also the Tron: The Next Day short is cute.
The 80s movie IS very slow-paced, which is why I feel it's maybe important to watch the documentaries on its production first, so you have the full context on WHY it's impressive. Then when you watch the movie, you'll be able to get a form of "damn, that's impressive" like if you watched it when new, at least I like to think.
These assholes were rendering CGI without any previews to see what they were doing, they had to map the XYZ and tilt values for each object in a scene for every single frame on graph paper, before sending it to the rendering computers and hope it comes out right, like, a day later.
They rotoscoped all the circuitry onto the actors' costumes by hand, AGAIN frame by frame, dude. The process for the glow effect involved several hand-painted layers.
The videogames and tie-in comics are also all surprisingly good. TRON 2.0 (get the GoG version and Killer App mod, it's great), the Ghost in the Machine, Tron Betrayal, all worth trying out.
Even those two newer games that came out recently (Tron Identity + Catalyst) are apparently very decent. Never played Tron Evolution, but hear it's decent enough aside from some padding, so maybe worth a shot.
