Imagine all the theatrical Cartoon Network movies we could've gotten by now if this one hadn't bombed.

>if it didint bomb
their fault for not doing this movie at the height of this show's popularity in the late 90's

Reminder that we also got theatrical Hey Arnold, VeggieTales and Wild Thornberrys movies that same year

The Dexter short was ugly as hell
Not suprised that the CN Universe project failed

The movie had an insane crunch time.

the movie's biggest problem was evidently that people thought it was a girl movie. the entire series had issues with this kind of branding.

A tie-in animated movie doesn't need a super high budget or theatrical release to be good.

It was really weird. I enjoyed it at the time, but it wasn't what I expected at all.

Ed Edd n Eddy movie was a hit, but also it was the Show finale.
If anything, Cartoon, Warner and Turner fucked everything badly the same way Nickelodeon did with Doug, could had made a movie, but Jim screwed badly as Nick.

Was it though? It aired in other countries first to little fanfare. Years later CN kinda just through it on TV in America with barely any promotion and that was it. I loved the movie but it was definitely a sloppy way they released.

CN's incompetence is also tied to the final months of the CN city era and the beginning of the reality era

Am i the only one that actually enjoyed the movie? I thought the tone being different compared to the TV series was nice.

This i remember it just being there out of the blue, with little to no advertisements. iirc in America the show had kind of stopped for a while, or at least aired sporadically, before they aired the movie

I liked it for what it was, but I really think it could have been done better.

Yeah I love the tone and the plot about Mojo using chemical X for a monkey army is great, but the origin angle makes the first half a bit of a slog. A plot about the villains all teaming up just for mojo to double cross them all with the monkey army for the final act would've been a bit more exciting

Wanted to add that maybe do something with the fact that they canonically have an island with monsters who's life goal is to fight the girls. Just randomly expanding on crap like that from the show would've been fun

The Powerpuff Girls Movie was for sure a cashgrab on CN's part, but thankfully Craig McCracken and his core team of colleagues went above and beyond in making the film feel truly cinematic and worthy of its name. Piss off.

I made my dad see this with my little sister and I. It was a great movie in theaters. I recently learned it flopped and I was kinda surpised. It was advertised a decent amount, PPGs was fairly popular with girls and boys, and the movie was good. It must have just been bad luck. I should check if like any other movies were out at the time or maybe parents got tired of taking their kids to tv movies? Idfk.
