It's actually intentionally ambiguous if Clive died. They've kept their mouths shut on it and haven't expanded on the ending at all. There are several indicators that could be interpreted as his survival. Even then, he was only put into that situation after he already GAPED the absolute fuck out of Ultima, so it was prior to that full absorption of Ultima that this happened.

Then I remembered that Onlookers and Observers exist in BlazBlue, and the observing ability is based off the Schrodinger's cat experiment and Quantum Physics.
