Its a lose-lose situation for the country, honestly. There are realistically only two options for what can happen the next time the democrats have power (which could happen as soon as the next federal election, in theory)
1: The Democrats remain ineffectual, and waffle, and don't accomplish anything despite having the opportunity. This means that all of the damage done to our systems of government is allowed to stand, goes unpunished, and the next bad actor to hold office has free reign to do whatever insane shit they want. Even if you support Trump, you have to recognize that someone else in this position with his level of power and lack of accountability could do absolutely massive damage in the future on these precedents
2: The Democrats do a massive reversal of Trump's policies, and do the same level of purges of the Right that Trump has done to the Left. This might fix some damage in the short term, but it establishes a dangerous dynamic between the two parties where any time one party gains power it becomes open season on the other party. America loses all illusion of contiguous governance between presidencies, every 4 years we roll the dice and the swing is massive between polar opposites every time. This pushes the country into an ever deeper rift between the two parties, making political violence and civil war basically inevitable, and also destroys our ability to hold any meaningful diplomatic or economic agreements with other countries because any promise made by the president becomes written on water, the moment the next election happens nothing can be trusted to be upheld anymore.
I don't see a way out of this that is not a functional boardwipe of the american political ecosystem, such that there are no longer democrats OR republicans by the end and we have a different party structure entirely. This tug of war between the GOP and the Dems cannot end in anything other than civil war, or the end of our democracy.
