On the one hand, none of the other Spider-people are legally or emotionally close enough to Peter to be speaking for him. That kind of authority belongs to his next of kin. There’s really no other way to read it as anything except that Paul dropped the ball either by accident or on purpose. Okay I am sport let's talk ways to undo OMD here we go.

Paul figures out that there's a way he can reverse the genocide his father did to his universe and restore it, but the events are tethered in the flow of time to the decisions made in OMD, due to Wayeb having been empowered by Mephisto all along. Spider-Man, Dr. Strange and Jackpot go along with the plan, ultimately resulting in successfully returning Paul to his original timeline to stop his father and Wayeb, after which he and MJ have a tearful goodbye and a dramatic kiss.

With Wayeb defeated, Strange informs Mephisto that his deal with Spider-Man has been retroactively broken due to magical shenanigans. As Mephisto curses their names, a flash of blinding light engulfs them all. Peter wakes up in bed next to MJ, both seeming slightly younger. As he begins his morning patrol in costume, he feels amazing, spectacular even, like a massive weight has been lifted from his shoulders. Exposition makes it clear that he doesn't remember any of the events after OMD.

After he foils the Shocker, he returns home to MJ waiting for him. She looks shaken, glass of wine in hand. It turns out that she remembers everything, and she feels immense guilt due to her role in OMD in the first place, and for leaving Paul to rebuild his world alone.

She breaks up with Peter, telling him that she needs to go consult Dr. Strange on how to get back to Paul's universe to be with him, and maybe even bring their children back by starting a family. Peter begrudgingly accepts, admitting that Paul sounds like a good man and a true hero after all, and if he makes MJ happy, then it must be meant to be.

In the epilogue, Peter is swinging through the city, remarking that the Parker luck really did a number on him this time, as he saved the time stream and an alternate universe but still wasn't a good enough man to get the girl. His train of thought is interrupted, however, by a kid in a bright blue costume swinging up alongside him and explaining that he's Spider-Boy, and it might not feel like it but they've definitely met before. After this. Peter and MJ weren't married Peter and Gwen are married and have kids meanwhile Mary Jane has her life in Hollywood.

Aunt May finds out about Peter’s deal w Mephisto. She tries to reverse the deal because she wants Peter and MJ back together, but Mephisto doesn’t want May’s soul… he wants HER. We get an issue-long sex-scene that’s as uncomfortable as it is weird, and at the same time, OMD day has been reversed.

Peter has his soul back, he and MJ are back together, and they have no memory of their time apart. Mephisto sends Peter a visual projection of what’s going on between him and May and Peter is mortified but goes to save her because she’s his aunt and there’s no way she would agree to this. He faces off with Mephisto and is brought face to face with Gwen’s death because that hasn’t been done a million times. He eventually beats Mephisto, but Aunt May stops him, saying that she chose this. She explains everything and Peter doesn’t understand, but she says it will be okay, and she never wanted him to make that sacrifice, and besides she wants to be with Ben anyway.

Peter is sent back w the knowledge of One More Day, but he chooses not to tell MJ. Mephisto however isn’t done: he brought someone back who isn’t meant to be there, MJ is at the grocery store and drops her stuff. A guy helps her pick things up, named Paul. They make eye-contact and make things clear MJ and Paul are meant to be together. Even as she gets home to Peter, she kinda blows him off thinking of Paul, teasing that she will inevitably end back up w him as they are clearly made for each other

Chasm and Hallows eve learn of an artifact called the Cup of Quesada. It once belonged to an Aztec ruler who when he drank from it gained the ability to see all possible outcomes for his life.

Chasm drinks from the Cup and learns it does not work on him in the way he hoped. He only sees all of Peter’s possibilities including the bargain from one more day as well as all the outcomes.

After contemplating all these outcomes Chasm knows what he has to do. He and Hallows Eve create a clone of Paul. They then kidnap Paul and cut him into little pieces and throw him in the Hudson.

The clone then takes Paul’s place and MJ is none the wiser. Clone Paul swaps out MJs birth control pills with slow acting hallucinogens.

One night after a lot of wine Paul and MJ have relations but it is not Paul it is Ben.

MJ becomes pregnant and nine months later gives birth to a baby girl. Hallows Eve steals the baby durning delivery and replaces it with a dead fetus and MJ believes she has delivered her baby still birth.

Chasm takes the baby and calls Mephisto. He makes a bargain. Mephisto takes the baby and in return puts the marriage back together. Erases all the memories of the years from the original bargain.

Little did Mephisto know that making this bargain screws with the establishment of who is ‘Peter’ and who is ‘Baby May’.

When the deal is done we open on Spider-Man #75. Mary Jane has her baby. Peter is the clone and turns to ash.

The story then moves to MJ and Ben having a happy live with their baby girl

Peter has to balance his once-monthly visitation of Mayday with his responsibilities as Spider-Man, so he almost always misses his time to visit Mayday. She grows to resent him and starts calling Paul "dad." We are reminded of this every other issue of ASM in a backup story that takes up 8-10 pages.

J sleeps with Mefisto for him to reconsider the deal. Turns out he has a thing for redheads.

She gets pregnant and gives birth to a AntiChrist. Everyone tells her the child needs to die (similar to Kevin Smith' Daredevil comic) but she refuses because "that's my kid!!!". Spider-Man takes her side and has to fight off the Avengers (he gets humiliated lol).

Story ends with, I dunno, Mephisto steps in, takes away the child and erases everyone's memories (except for Peter/MJ/both). They now can get married.

Make it 12-issue crossover event similar to Messiah Complex, where characters like Fury and Wolverine hunt down Peter.

Oh, I know some of you mfs are cheering at that, but consider this- Spider-Man of Marvel v. Capcom made a canonical appearance in Spider-Verse, so now you've officially destroyed any potential chance of a future Marvel v. Capcom game releasing.

After trying and failing in increasingly comical ways to actually hurt anyone, a literal angel comes down and explains that Paul is failing because he doesn't really want to hurt anyone because Paul is the bestest boy ever.

In the meantime, Peter and MJ are married again and take a trip to Ikea to get a new chest of drawers for the bedroom, but have a terrible fight as couples are want to do. The angel has told Paul to be at this Ikea and consoles a downtrodden MJ. She falls madly in love and hires She-Hulk to draw up divorce papers.

Peter still gets a big win, though, because he gets to buy the STORKLINTA whether MJ liked it or no

We slowly do the entire Kindred storyline AGAIN except slowly retconning all the retcons, working through all the storylines back to OMD, until we're left with Paul and Peter alone in a void and it turns out Paul is actually Norman Osborne........'s android clone created by Computer Harry at Mysterio's request after he found out who Peter was because he blames Peter for never having won a SFX Emmy and wanted to make him pay. HOWEVER, none of it is a dream, it's just be seventeen years of abject buffoonery because it turns out Mysterio had a malfunctioning mind control implant from Doc Ock that Computer Harry hacked into because it turns out Computer Harry is actually DA JOKER, BABY! Then the real Norman shows up as the Gold Goblin and shoots Peter in the face before saying, "I did it all for you.......Bailey." Out comes Spider-Boy, claiming the title of the One True Spider.

Peter goes home to Aunt May to find her dead already from an unrelated heart attack. There is a knock on the door from a process server who for some reason knows Peter is at Aunt May’s. It is a lawsuit from Carlie cooper, Carol Danvers, Anna Maria, and Bobbi Morse suing him for fraud for dating them while married. Just then he gets a call from JJJ. He is disappointed in Leter and has decided to expose him as Spider-Man. In fact he already did.

Peter weeps on the floor in Aunt May’s apartment when the cops arrive. JJJ inherited everything, so they are kicking him out.

Out on the sidewalk, Flash slugs him, nearly knocking him out with one punch. He laughs at him and calls him a nerd. The end.

During a cross-over with the DC universe, Batman discovers what Spider-Man did. He goes to Mephisto and sells HIS soul to restore their marriage. Then it's revealed that Batman somehow tricked Mephisto and managed to retain ownership of his soul.

Peter shoots Mephisto with a magic shotgun that takes away all his sins.

Mephisto feels bad and undoes OMD.

In the process Mephisto becomes a new father figure to Peter and does casual drop ins now.

Gwen Stacy and Uncle Ben come down from Heaven to tell MJ and Peter about the deal with Paul and Norman’s help they manage to undo the deal with Mephisto so Peter and MJ can be together but it turns out Mephisto had a secret clause to this in that if the deal was ever undone Aunt May dies and her soul goes to Hell. After learning about this Peter lashes out at Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy, and MJ which causes MJ to stay with Paul. Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy stay on Earth to fight crime and protect the innocent with Gwen Stacy getting very intimate with Norman and Uncle Ben becoming a fallen angel with a mullet who’s very willing maim and kill. Peter is still very sad until an inter dimensional portal opens up with a woman walking towards him and helps him get better in a montage who is then revealed Paul’s twin sister Paulett.

Peter sacrifices himself, taking May’s place. Peter Parker of 616 is dead. MJ goes crazy because of this and sells her soul to Mephisto, in exchange for Ben being forever brainwashed into thinking he’s the original Peter (and the world as a whole thinking so too). The timeline goes on, except with MJ and the reader forever knowing that this is one big delusional lie.

Mephisto agrees to keep everything the same and give back Peter and MJ’s marriage in exchange for their daughter.

Now here’s the kicker. because she isn’t born yet, that just means MJ is infertile and keeps having miscarriages and the story deals with Peter deciding between telling MJ or not

JMS’ original script for One More Day and the story that Marvel published. JMS’s version would still have ended Peter and Mary Jane’s marriage, would still have featured Mephisto as the antagonist, and would still have included many of the things One More Day’s detractors disliked about it, like Spider-Man’s decision to unmask in Civil War, or how no one in the Marvel Universe was able to wake Aunt May out of her coma. The main difference would be that Peter was able to prevent Harry’s drug problems, which would result in cascading changes, as Norman Osborn never kills Gwen Stacy and Peter never married Mary Jane. Now it’s worth considering the implications.

Quesada was on board with reversing the death of Gwen Stacy, but no one else at Marvel was.

The only thing we kept vacillating on was Gwen Stacy; we had a debate as to whether to bring her back. In the end, Joe and I wanted Gwen back. Several months later, several of my editors and some of the creators spoke to me and lobbied to keep her dead and in the end, much to Joe’s and my disappointment, we had to leave her be. Ultimately, I felt that the arguments I was hearing for keeping her dead were stronger than my reasoning for bringing her back.

The disagreement isn’t about the Gwen thing, but about the effect on continuity of what JMS wanted to do.

In a no longer existent CBR post, Dan Slott summed up the consequences of those changes, and why it would have been a big deal. I copied and pasted it at the time.

Continuity DRASTICALLY changed in ALL the Spidey comics AND all the comics Spidey has tied into SINCE The Night Gwen Stacy (didn’t) Die.

Some readers assume that JMS’s version would have included a detailed explanation about how all these changes came to be. Marvel fans are already used to the idea that the comics they read occurred a little bit differently than in the original depiction, just due to the sliding timescale. There is a counterargument than when the backstory is already so precarious, any new changes complicate things too much. However, the changes in One More Day weren’t as far-reaching as what JMS would have done.

Slott also emphasized why it would have been so difficult to implement JMS’s story. It contradicted material that had already been commissioned months earlier. This is also copied and pasted from posts that no longer exist.

We were working on BND pretty far back in 2007. Remember SPIDER-MAN: SWING SHIFT? That issue, which had teases to BND characters and set-ups, came out the first week of May in ’07– and the last issue of OMD didn’t come out till December ’07. We were told all of the story beats of OMD, but we didn’t see the specific script for the last issue till we were well into our own run. This is the nature of publishing a 3 times a month book– and making sure it sticks to a schedule. For example: Before readers ever saw my 1st story arc with Steve McNiven, Marcos was drawing my 2nd arc, and I was turning in plots for my 3rd arc (NEW WAYS TO DIE). When fans ACTUALLY got to see the issues and voice concerns about Harry’s return– my very NEXT arc addressed it (the Molten Man two-parter). For most artists, it takes a good month to produce a penciled issue of a comic. That’s not factoring in the time it takes to write it before hand, the time the inker and colorist are working on a staggered schedule on the other side of that, and you also have to add all the various editorial issues AND the hard work the letterer and the production department have to do. It’s a massive group effort! Schedule-wise, when you triple THAT for a 3 issue arc (or sextuple it for a 6 issue arc!), the editor CANNOT view THAT as three books coming out in one month, he HAS to treat it as one book that has to be ready 3 months ahead of time, a second book that has to be ready 2 months ahead of time, and a third that has be ready 1 month ahead of time. (Now think about THAT for the 6 parter!!!) AND doing that EVERY MONTH. This kind of scheduling would KILL an ordinary editor– but Steve Wacker pulls it off! The plus side: When it all comes together, you get 3 issues a month! (And going by the fan mail, readers frickin’ LOVE that– and want to know why OTHER Marvel comics won’t do this.)

The minus side: Once that “train” is on the tracks, it is HARD to make sharp turns. (That’s why we created side-projects like AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: EXTRA, so we could address fan concerns– and OUR concerns– on a more flexible month-to-month basis. You can cheer for it all you want, but what you are really doing is hyping up a man who is performing a cognitively dissonant role instead of processing his issues. The Goblin persona was a dissociated part of Norman’s psyche that carried his aggression, grandiosity, and destructive impulses. Once that was stripped away, he was left exposed, drowning in guilt and shame. Instead of working toward integration, which is the actual therapeutic goal in dissociative identity disorder, he is busy constructing a new identity under the excuse of helping a friend, when in reality it is just a tactic to avoid emotions he's struggling with regulating.

This would result in reaction formation instead of growth. That is when guilt pushes someone to adopt the opposite role of their past behavior. Spider-Man’s identity is built on empathy, humility, and responsibility. Norman has never consistently embodied those values, and forcing himself into that role only magnifies his internal conflict. The result is not redemption, it is deeper psychological dissonance and a higher risk of relapse into destructive patterns. That relapse could show up as the return of suppressed Goblin traits as his psyche fractures further, the collapse of his overcompensating hero act once guilt overwhelms him, or the reappearance of destructive behaviors as a release from the strain of living a role that contradicts his personality. The scenario would most likely result in escalating his instability instead of resolving anything.

I’m sure JMS thought that his solution provided more flexibility for the later writers, by turning backstory into a blank slate. But that type of reboot is much harder to pull off in a shared universe, where changing the backstory of the Spider-Man comics affects other franchises as well. It would also have invalidated the sense that the stories in the past have consequences, while making it much more difficult to reference elements of the character’s history, when it’s all vague and undefined. It would also be a different thing if one writer were taking over Amazing Spider-Man for an extended period of time, as we’re seeing with Nick Spencer right now, and saw with Dan Slott. It’s more complicated with multiple writers who each have to worry about the other guys’ plans.

It would have been ridiculously time-consuming work for the writers to come up with Spider-Man’s new history and make it fit with the rest of the Marvel Universe. And then they’d have to spend a lot of time and finite pages filling in the readers on what elements of the backstory are different, all while coming up with Spider-Man’s new adventures in the current comics. This type of approach has resulted in a lot of headaches in DC Comics Post-Flashpoint, as writers receive conflicting information about the histories of the characters.

In his earlier work, when he showed events that occurred a generation or so in the future, there would be a major sequence towards the end of the story following up on that. Babylon 5 and Midnight Nation are examples. So it’s telling that he had a few scenes with a fugitive future Spider-Man whose identity was known to the public in Amazing Spider-Man #500, and chose not to touch on that setting during Back in Black and One More Day, in which Spider-Man was a fugitive whose identity was known to the public.

While I wouldn’t mind reading a Silver Surfer: Requiem type mini-series featuring JMS’s dark future for Spider-Man, he was aware that even an extraordinary writer is probably not going to get the opportunity to tell Spider-Man’s final story. He could always have told Quesada that he’d rather leave it up to another writer to set things up for Brand New Day, and tell his last story a different way.

But he chose to write One More Day. He even ultimately chose to keep his name on the last two issues.

There are still quite a few questions. Let’s sidestep whether One More Day was a wise decision (which would dominate the discussion.) Was a clearer explanation better? If so, should Marvel have still gone with it, even if it could contradict the work the next writers and artists were already doing?

urns out the clone saga never ended. "Peter" discovers another bunker with 5 other Peter Parkers. The door is locked and trapped with each other as they compete to avoid being hit by a gas that activates clone degradation and causes them to melt into piles of goo.

They all fight it out, but "the real Peter" actually fails the challenge on purpose to save the clones. He isn't a clone, so he won't melt. However, he does. He was a clone the whole time. The actual real Peter is unveiled, and the trap finally releases him with the knowledge that he was the reason behind the death of several living beings. This takes an obscenely long 12 issues and is called pick a Peter. Each of the Peters is different, and readers get to vote what the new Peter Parker is like.

He goes to MJ for comfort only to realize she doesn't remember their marriage, but he does. In his grief, he wanders around and runs into Miles. When he describes what happened, Miles remembers when he met Mephisto, and Miles tells him.

Peter and Miles are amazed that Peter remembers. They go to Jackals lab to find out he magic proofed it to prevent Peter's magical friends from finding the real Peter. Peter and Miles make new spider suits using Jackal's anti magic technology.

Peter steals a Quinjet, and they go to Latveria. Peter knows Doom has a portal to hell, and he wants to go beat Mephisto up. Doom defeats them with magic, letting them know they need to sacrifice someone important to them to make the magic work. Doom shows them his hell armor made from one of his former lovers.

Peter kills Miles, and Doom helps him make the armor as Doom knows the prophesy that a Spider person will one day defeat Mephisto, and Doom still wants his mother's soul back.

They go to hell together, and Peter beats Mephisto, but Mephisto lets him know that it won't break the previous deal. Peter would need to make a new deal. Peter begins to pitch a bargain, but Doom interrupts using a weakness he engineered in the Hell Spider Armor. Doom gets his mother's soul back and allows Mephisto to name his term for their marriage.

Mephisto's condition is that Spidey needs to have every one of his enemies run a train on Mary Jane. Each villain gets his own issue full of melodrama and graphic awful imagery.

After the horrible experience, the spell is broken, and they are married again, but both Peter and MJ are broken by the experience too. Peter stops being Spider-Man and they decide to be separate for the time being while they process what happened.

Alright so first we’re time skipping 10 months, everybody hates Peter but we’re not told why. MJ has moved to Oregon and died off screen and Paul is dating Black Cat, they’re crazy horny for each other all the time.

Peter gets an IT job for Wilson Fisk, calling him The Uncle He Wished He Had. Suddenly Turner D Century shows up and beats Peter so bad he calls Paul begging for the super secret super suit because he’s going to die. Paul says no because it turns out that Peter is a clone and Paul was the real Spiderman all along. Paul gets rid of the hyphen and travels to MJ’s grave where he remembers how they broke up (he walked in on her sleeping with Norman). Paul flexes his muscles to nobody, sheds a single tear, and flies away.

Spiderboy and the robot ghost of Dr. Strange resurrect Peter in the body of a Golden Retriever, and Nick Spencer does a pretty good run on the Amazing Spider-Dog, traveling back in time to prevent One More Day by biting Mephisto in the dick. Heidi Gardner shows up in hell and a piano falls on her head.

Paul adopts Peter Barker and has to kick him out of the bedroom so he can get it on with Black Cat. Frustrated, Peter humps a pillow while listening to the muffled noises while a portrait of Aunt May watches unapprovingly. Suddenly there’s a knock on the door, and Paul answers it to find Uncle Ben back from the grave. The last page is a full shot of Ben saying to Paul “Hello Son”.

The world would be a better place if Poland was nuked off the globe.

Straight-up divorce that proves the wedding issue wrong about the strength of the relationship. Aunt May still dies, Peter decides to bail on MJ for her own benefit and gets Dr. Strange to wipe everyone's memory and cosmically retcon away the marriage, viewing it as a mistake. So Peter basically goes forward with no supporting cast whatsoever, convinced this is the best way to do things.

Deadpool leaves, but Stan creates Spider-Man anyway drawing from their similarities and going off what the youth of the 60s might enjoy. However, Stan was taken by a particular piece of artwork featuring Cable and Deadpool making out, so Cable replaces Mary Jane.

Cable is too scary for Mephisto to fuck with, so there is never a bargain. Goodbye, One More Day.

MJ sleeps with Mephisto and that convinces him to undo it but Peter and MJ now gotta raise the Antichrist.

OMD is undone but the only way to do it is to put Ock's brain back in Peter and Peter's in Ock, but neither can say that that's happened or it will retrigger OMD.

Spidey reverses One More Day thanks to renegotiating his deal with Mephisto. Everyone lives, and the Spider-Man comic is suddenly better than ever, with great art, exciting plots, and a Spider-Man who develops as a character. But due to the new deal, Peter has to spend one page in every issue pooping into his own hand and then eating the poop.

Blackheart offers Spider-Man a deal to solve One More Day convincing him his life has been an illusion

Aunt May immediately dies.

Paul and MJ are married

Turns out May was Mysterio all along.

Uncle Ben is actually alive living in the house hidden in the walls. He uses his spider powers(Peter actually inherited them genetically) to catch the bullet from hitting Aunt May

Peter goes to hell with Miles and Dr Strange and tell Mephsto If he doesn't undo One More day they will break his shins

Mephisto grabs MJ and breaks her shins which causes demons to be released from the broken bones which manifest into mildly hotter Clones of MJ which causes all of them to start making our with each other

Mephisto is so distracted watching this unfold he accidentally clicks the undo OMD button. Causing Peter to wake up in bed with Paul and find out that in this updated timeline he has been cheating with Paul on MJ for the last 3 years

Peter now has to find a Marriage Counselor to fix his crumbling Marriage.

Peter Parker was in a coma this entire time, so every story that ever featured him after "One More Day" never happened.......but Mary Jane, over the years Peter was in a coma, got together with a man named Paul and had two kids with him (these ones are actually real).

Doom tracks down MJ, tells her what happened and that she can save Peter

I don't really remember how but basically Doom found out about the Mephisto deal and knows Peter and MJs child will result in Mephistos final defeat, he absolutely wants this child to exist, he doesnt care how.

So he tells MJ, mephisto put so much effort into keeping her and Peter apart to claim their child's soul and MJ fell for it. He is mischaracterising what happened to make her feel worse.

Doom tells her, in front of Paul, that she can save Peter AND Mayday, by sacrificing the child she is currently pregnant with and whatever the fuck she has with Paul. Doom points out that no matter her decision she has already condemned a child to hell, she just has to pick which child.

(Part of the reason she felt so off is because she felt it should be Peter she had a family with not paul).

Paul could go 2 ways, either "i understand, i have to go now my planet needs me" or it could be the start of his supervillain origin story where he keeps trying to get revenge on MJ (to a lesser degree Peter) and try to destroy her family/relationships in future stories.

(I want Paul to have just been a guy the whole time, his only crime was getting between soul mates and the universe punishes him horribly for it)

Anyway, she sacrifices her current pregnancy, Peter is saved, Maydays soul is released, OMD is undone and Peter remembers everything.

Peter ends up assembling a new sinister six with the goal of ruling the world, as all Peter cares about now is his own enrichment and power. Peter decides to take revenge, going on a personal crusade against his former allies and personally tormenting Paul in ways that'd make reverse flash blush. He brutally and sadistically kills a large number of popular characters like Tony Stark and Wolverine out of pettiness for not helping him.

Peter proceeds to kill Aunt May when she tries to reason with him, which ends up undoing the contract of One More Day. The marriage is restored, but Peter and MJ's relationship falls apart as Peter stays irredeemably evil. They remain legally married, but are now mortal enemies. Paul ends up becoming the new Spider Man and he and MJ proceeds to have Romy and Owen for real. Peter Parker is now a persistent member of the rogues gallery but ends up as a joke villain similar to The Bodega Bandit despite his previous showings. Mary Jane is then randomly fridged by The Wall in a completely unrelated plot, who becomes the main villain of the series. Paul forgets about her in two issues, as editorial determined he was more relatable if he was single.

OMD gets reversed, but Paul gets Peter’s powers and becomes the best version of Spider-Man in any universe. Paul then becomes the main 616 Spider-Man and Peter still loses MJ to Paul. Peter then becomes homeless cuz he can’t get a job and is retired as a character…

Carnage didn't develop a resistance to electricity until 2022 and that was after bonding with Norman and red goblin was not affected by the venom blast so it could be argued that there's precedent for Norman tanking it on his own. Norman Osborn’s grief and trauma is a festering rotted corpse he shoves into the back alley dumpster he calls the Goblin persona. He could not handle Harry’s death, so he did what every unhinged bastard does when faced with unbearable guilt. He blamed Peter Parker. Because of course he did. It is easier to scream “YOU DID THIS” at someone else than admit you were a shitcan father who let your own madness chew your kid up and spit him out.

That blame gave Norman a fantasy where he was still in control. The Goblin was a mask and a coping mechanism. A way to justify every horrible thing he did while pretending his grief had a target. But eventually, that fantasy cracked. Maybe it was a rare moment of clarity. Maybe his dissociative defenses finally collapsed. Either way, Norman had to face the truth. Peter did not kill Harry. Norman's expectations did.

And that truth hit like a goddamn freight train. If Peter was not the villain, then Norman was. That realization was so unbearable it nearly broke him. The grief turned inward, and the Goblin could not contain it anymore. So Norman pulled yet another deranged stunt and tried to bait Peter into killing him. Not just because he wanted to die, but because he wanted Peter to become him. To carry the same guilt, the same rage, the same fucked-up legacy.

Peter, being the stubborn moral jackass he is, hit him with a “Nice try” and turned his words back on him. That was both a rejection of Norman’s death wish and a rejection of everything Norman believed gave his life meaning. It left him standing in the wreckage of his own delusions, staring down at 5 dollars, a box of cold pizza, and the fact that he destroyed one of very few people he ever loved, and there was no one else to blame. At that moment he was neither a mastermind nor the goblin, he was just Norman Osborn, a broken father drowning in grief he could no longer outrun. Fuck yeah, he wanted to die.
