Haunted Hotel
What made it more enjoyable than Long Story Short?

Nothing did, faggot, both shows are stiffly-animated millennial garbage.

Think it's the fact the family actually feel like they care for each other compare to other adult animation shows where it feels like they hate each other or are overly graphic and sexual. Most of the show felt more muted on these things allowing for more interesting dynamics instead of just sex jokes or over the top gore

More likeable main cast.

Long Story Short is a better, more interesting story, but holy fuck they are all terrible people bar the grandpa and oldest grandchild. Like Bojack, that's the entire point, it's what makes them interesting characters. It's just hard to really root for them as they continue to be so self-destructive.

Haunted Hotel is just a goofy, loving family trying their best and you quickly end up liking all five of them.

It's like Inside Job mixed with Bob's Burgers with a spooky tone and it works

It was funnier. It's by the numbers Rick and Morty comedy.

>mfw "You killed yourself."
I figured how Nathan died was going to be a plot point but I thought it was going to be something embarrassing or he was killed by the cultists/some big bad. Shows like this usually don't go in that direction.

Yeah this is weirdly common in adult animation, the cast are just unlikeable and sometimes feel like they aren't even family. Like rick and morty where the smiths all feel like they despise each other.

Sometimes you just want a group of characters that can and do like each other. An feel like they are a family trying their best but with a few flaws

Somebody on YouTube pointed out some stuff in the emails.

He had an email of his prescription of antidepressants medication needing a refill

He also had an email of scissors he wanted to buy.
And mostly he constantly wears long sleeves meaning he could've slit his wrists.
Ghost have remember of their death Nathan has bags under his eyes.

These sum up my thoughts too. The cast carries the show - the humor and stories vary in quality, there wasn't a lot of kneeslapping for me as far as jokes went, some moments were pretty damn funny like Katherine watching his son and his clones form a ring of mutual affection, but the characters are very likeable and interact with each other in an entertaining way, and you end up liking them and wanting to see more.

Yeah, caught me by surprise as well. He's also mostly a lighthearted goofball as a ghost, so it's not the first thing you expect from a guy like him. Though it was weird that he didn't seem to consider that a possibility or seemed very shocked that it had happened like so, since he did recall having many bad days in a very hurt tone, so seems like the slow grind towards the sudden end had been underway for some time.

Well with people like him usually they have highs and lows. I'm sure he didn't do anything like cut himself or attempt before, someone like nathan strikes me as someone that just does it no fanfare probably not even a note. He probably is the type to not want to be a burden in life now that he's dead he's forgotten all his worldly troubles plus it's implied Kathy and nate hadn't seen each other in years. So just having his family around makes him forget why he was ever so lonely/depressed.

Idk why the ben ep was pretty funny, also the book voice change in the ben subplot about being more emotionally available.

Yeah sometimes you connect with the characters and so the humor doesn't have to be as well over the top. Also as some have said before honestly the reason asshole characters and sailor swearing characters exist is because they are easier to write. You can make them do "insert funny thing" because they are a asshole no need to have a reason or make it fit because they are just assholes and weird.

Example is like modern family guy, aka soulless family guy. Most of the griffins were assholes to begin with but now they are all borderline sociopathic bullies to one another so you can shoot out a joke a second and at least one will be a kneeslapper. same with the simpsons can't imagine half of the stuff they do now coming from the earlier versions as they really were good people who just had flaws. Now they are just assholes that hate each other or mostly don't have much sympathy for one another like before. Like lisa and how much she shits on her family now, compared to in the older stuff where she'd just be disappointed or apologize for overstepping now she's usually just a brat about it and doesnt' care how she hurts their feelings. Same with homer and being a jerk to marge etc. It makes the characters easier to set up jokes by making them caricatures but also kills their likability

yeah it was surprisingly dark even with the macabre setting
>goofy screw up brother commits suicide in his failing hotel
That's just sad. I like it went this way though, makes Nathan really human
