who SHOULD be the Hobgoblin?
Disregarding Hobgoblin Lives and Ned Leeds death.

Main candidates:

Roderick Kingsley
>logical, would do the things hobgoblin was established to have done given what we learn about him in his spectacular spider-man stories
>has the finances to do what he would do
>hobgoblin being an evil fashion designer is admittedly creative
>somewhat of an obscure character, which may be an underwhelming reveal, but it can be changed by giving him more scenes/stories. do remember that norman osborn was barely established and wasnt even named until 2 issues before GG's reveal
>has an established relationship with one of the major characters (mary jane)
>kingsley characterization is admittedly inconsistent on the surface. sometimes he is a flamboyant wimp other times he is menacing
>brother twist may be a bit too scooby doo-tier

Richard Fisk
>would probably become a costumed villain
>would be an interesting reveal, brings back a character that has not been seen in years in a huge way
>has the riches to pull off being the hobgoblin
>changes the rose to roderick kingsley
>ties him to 2 villains which could be too much and might bog him down
>motivation a mixed bag. richard wants to undermine and drive kingpin out of his criminal empire. not necessarily to rule it from the getgo, which is hobgoblin's thought process in his origin story

Ned Leeds
>would be a popular reveal, long-running member ot the supporting cast
>has a strong connection to a major part of spider-man's supporting cast (bugle) which adds some drama
>probably the most emotionally impactful choice to be the hobgoblin
>does not really have the financial backing or underground connections that hobgoblin and his alter ego are shown to have in early stories
>motivation ill-fitting/unclear, would ned really do the things hobgoblin has done?

I think a better question might be, what should Hobgoblin's whole deal actually be?
Why is this guy Hobgoblin and what is his whole goal in mind dressing up as a knockoff Green Goblin in the first place?

I actually like Kingsley's current shtick with being the main supplier of supervillain costumes with built in gadgets. That fits with his whole background as both a clothing designer and a rich guy with underworld ties who can fund these sorts of things on the side. Makes him more of a supervillain Edna Mode. In a world where there are hundreds of villains and heroes running around, someone out there would try to capitalize on the gadget-filled bulletproof costume racket. Some company would definitely make quality themed custom costumes for would be heroes and villains.

The problem with that is Kingsley has no reason to actually "Be" the Hobgoblin in any way. It's more of a Tinkerer level position of just selling to crooks and then maybe killing them for not paying up on time. But he has no reason to put on his own costume, go flying out in Manhattan and pumpkin bombing things and robbing places at all. He's still a businessman so robing places or fighting heroes is pointless for his whole business.

Even in the context of 80s and 90s comics it made no sense. He was a rich successful guy already. There was no point in putting on a goblin costume and robbing anyone, or getting into tussles with Spider-Man. With Norman it was because the goblin formula made him crazy.

Hobgoblin cannot compete with Spider-Man in the first fight so this would be implausible
