Nothing in Gen V is canon to The Boys comic. The Boys TV show is so far removed from the original comic they are two different stories.

I know he died but there are ways around that. You could recast his character, or introduce another male character to the main crew.

I've liked it quite a bit, its actual overarching storylines have been much more put together than the main show. Some of the more on-the-nose emotional drama falls flat but it doesn't drag down the entire experience.

I did catch on to the "twist" from this recent episode pretty early and it was kind of hilarious watching Marie work so hard to do the dumbest things possible

I actually could not see the twist coming so it was enjoyable momentarily but it was not a big enough twist to blow me away completely

Season 1 had much better writing imo

I feel like they nerfed Sam. I feel like his strength and durability was suppose to be way above the average supe. They were using him to make his brother stronger. But in season 2 he's no different than the other students and he gets ragdolled by people he should be better than.

Have we ever seen him fighting people above his weight class in season 1? I barely remember the few fights he had with the rest of the main crew and he was frequently put under pressure in both of them, hell, Andre alone beat him in a 1v1 just by tasering him last season, I doubt he was ever intended to be Homelander levels of strong.
Cate on the other hand definitely got nerfed though, beyond the skull injury, I don't think there ever was a point in season 1 where they even implied her orders only worked on people's minds for a specific amount of time (in fact they made a great effort establishing otherwise with the whole lost brother deal), and yet Sam's completely sober this season after being told to stop feeling any remorse for the fucked up shit he was doing with her, I'd kinda get this if the main villain had a more common power, but they already established Godolkin as a far stronger telepath, so it just feels like they ended up writing themselves into a corner there.

There's no point that Cate's powers were implied to expire over time but every time they "expired" it seemed to be because the subject was reminded of the truth and not some arbitrary temporary limit on it. Sam's brainwashing only expired because each time he was told some shit he did not like

gonna be honest guys, the cipher twist was interesting (if obvious) in theory but I think they fucked up bad with it

losing the fucking midnight mass guy as your main villain is a massive mistake and this new guy doesn't have 30% of the presence

I didn't say Homelander level. I said way above the average. Golden Boy was the number 1 supe at that school, and Sam is way stronger than him. In terms of power Golden Boy was Seven worthy, so logically Sam shouldn't be losing to scrub no name supes.

How does Cate's powers work? Does she need to touch them with her hands, or is it just skin to skin contact? The show makes it seem like it's the former.

Ethan Slater has barely been present in this season for like 8 minutes at most so far, I'm willing to keep my expectations tempered on whether he'll do a job as solid as Hamish's, but it's true he definitely has some big shoes to fill with the time he has left.
I agree with how much they messed up the twist btw they really should have saved that odessa accident flashback for either this episode or the next one.

I like the current Gen V cast and I hope they become a genuine superhero team by the end.

It's kinda fuckin appalling how genuinely good S1 was, then making The Boys S4 be a season full of nothing but set-up just to then make S2 of Gen V be another season full of set-up for whatever they'll do in the S5 finale.
It's at the very least entertaining but I can only expect these shows to end with the wettest fart.
