That episode can be studied in writing classes on how to fuck up dark comedy in almost every way possible.

I genuinely don't know what was going through the heads of the writers that not a single one of them stopped the production of the episode and went back to the drawing board after noticing that nothing in it was funny or entertaining to watch.

Strangely, these write ups work better for a horror episode-if written a bit more subtly- than a dark comedy. If this was played completely straight as horrifying than it could've worked-just tone down on the shock value.

I'm more bothered by the later one where stand misremembers him abandoning a friend after being bullied and it was actually the other way, and later francine does it to him and he mindbreaks himself to misremember again
just kind of a feelbad ending

It's fine, but compared to the rest it was pretty meh and pointless. Plus both factions were assholes. I recall Painted Lady being the worst ep to me (again nothing 'bad', just bottom tier to a great show) but I'd have to rewatch for a fresh opinion.

Yeah I will say painted lady for like more of nothing ep to me, still not bad tho by any means
I think divide works better than it really since it's still firmly in episodic journey mode while painted lady happened when there was less time to spare on episodic exploration, so it feels like more of a waste
even then, again, not really that much of a problem in the long run
Atla was paced pretty well. Nothing less of a miracle it got to be and was as good as it was.
