I just noticed it. The things he introduces to both the Big 2 - gay Iceman, aged up Jon Kent, whoever - the decisions are never allowed to be undone even though the revolving door of disrespectful writers has retconned away bigger peoples' work for less. Why him? Why are the things he puts in considered sacrosanct well after he leaves a company?

He's bitter as fuck that Heinberg and Disney itself retconned Avengers Disassembled to both bring Ant Man back but also absolve Wanda of AD/No More Mutants, via having Doom be the one who actually did both. Along with Bendis's bullshit where he's bitter and resentful as fuck that he was forced to bring Vision and Hawkeye back.

Dough-boy is a lot of things, but one of his few legitimate skills is the ability to read (and leverage) PR and industry cliques. I would say it's no exaggeration to say he's the king of Office Politics.

Isn't that the exception that proves the rule? It was kept as status quo for so long the only person that could force that away was The Mouse seeking movie synergy, and even then it still has knock-on effects as writers go back for it (Hickman having Muties turn her into the state religion's Satan during Krakoa, for instance).

I'm glad Ellis had enough pull to rescue Moon Knight from Bendis' character assassination at least. He didn't retcon it, since that run is still considered canon, but ever since Ellis nobody thankfully acknowledged Bendis' slop.
That run's biggest influence was resurrecting Snapdragon and giving her an ugly butch lesbian haircut (which is how she appeared in one the later Black Widow books)

By the Krakoa era Beast was so incredibly irredeemably evil (which is impressive when you remember that the X-men were rubbing shoulders with the likes of Apocalypse at this time) that he was killed off and replaced with a clone of himself with his personality from all the way back in the 80s. Bendis didn't write the X-force run where he was full villain, but his All-New X-men was kind of the turning point where people start pointing to him as past the point of no return.

They did undo Bendis revealing Superman’s secret identity to the world.

Bendis tried everything he could to ignore the retcons in Children's Crusade writing later stories that still acted like one day Wanda just went crazy and Doom had nothing to do with it, and still trying to force the idea that Wanda and Hawkeye had past relationship history.

Of all the things in Disassembled, Hawkeye's death was the one thing that somehow gained enough traction with Marvel fans who don't read Avengers, and generated enough outrage that they were forced to bring him back within a year, but when Bendis brought Vision back, he claimed to have done this by his own choice, just for the sake of that one scene at the start of AvX, just to have Vision blame Wanda for killing him and write them as a "broken marriage".

By the mid to late 2010s, what Bendis had done to Wanda wasn't really relevant anymore, it's more like the X-books started demonizing her again as Marvel reacting against her getting popular in the MCU. Prior to that, Marvel spent years trying to force both Wanda and Vision into new pairings just to fight MCU synergy and keep them apart. It was years and years of sustained intentional sabotage just because people at Marvel didn't like these characters and didn't want them together, and that they blamed Wanda the character for what Bendis wrote her doing.

That wasn't his decision. That was entirely Didio's decision as part of the leadup to 5G. And DC still thought of implementing 5G or Future State-lite up into Dark Crisis.

I don't think they have had an opportunity since Dark Crisis to retcon what he did unlike say the Superman identity reveal (which was also part of the 5G package) which was much more intrusive to writer/editors on Superman. Jon was more the character of Tomasi/Jurgens who were both gone by then because of Didio.

Big Name Writers can do almost anything they want in spite of their editors, but decisions are ultimately approved by the editor, Editor-in-Chief, Executive Editor, President, and higher executives at the company. The changes that stick remain because upper management want them to stick. There are suits who want Gay Bobby, who want aged-up Jon and they don't care what you think.

1) Aging up characters is a typical Didio move. See:
-Enzo on season 3 of Reboot
-Bart as the new Flash post-IC

2) Aged up Jon was the centerpiece of 5G, which was Didio's next big thing where Jon and Jace/Luke and Damian would then fight evil older versions of Superman and Batman.

Most of everything that Bendis did at DC was for this project. This is why he was hired by DC. Didio wanted to make Jon into DC's Miles and so hired the guy who created him.

Not true, most of what Bendis did in DC has been retconned and reversed by now.
Jon hasn't been aged down not because of Bendis, but because of what Taylor did, by making Jon gay and marketing him like that, it made it so DC couldn't reverse that.
If Jon had stayed straight, they probably could've killed him off and brought him back young like they did with Bart, but that's too late, DC wouldn't dare to fridge their big gay Superman.

They've retconned out his Legion reboot, were any of them even among the Legionaires in the recent Action Comics arc that had most versions of the Legion get wiped out by the Absolute Universe version

Every subsequent Miles Morales writer has ignored the last thing he added, Miles turning his venom blast into tendrils that extended from his finger tips, a potential replacement for webshooters

Also Riri and Miles were being recruited into a brand new SHIELD in the last issues he wrote for them. That's been completely ignored
