I’m pretty well convinced that vtubers are evil. It’s actually kind of a problem. It might border on a phobia at this point. If I saw and somehow recognized one of the actresses behind one of them, I’m not sure if that would humanize them and cure me, or if it would throw me into a violent panic.

Not really, it’s more because I’m ridiculously jealous and insecure whenever my boyfriend watches them. It’s really weird. I don’t mind him watching live action cam girls, I don’t mind his porn, I don’t mind his cartoon porn, I don’t mind him being with with irl women, I’m generally not usually jealous of his things. But he starts playing a vtuber in our living room? It feels like he opened a portal to hell and I freak out. They’re so uncanny, I feel genuinely threatened whenever I see or even hear one. That could be part of it, but not even the whole thing. At the end of the day, vtubers are weird and I don’t like them. This is pretty much what happened over the past 5 years. I think he still watches them when im not around and I know his friends talk about them with him, but out of sight, out of mind.

And, it’s funny, I don’t come across vtuber discussion almost anywhere else. But, when Jeph writes about them in QC? It’s enough degrees of separation removed, that I really don’t mind. His vtuber plots are weirdly a decent exposure therapy because I don’t really have negative associations built up around them and seeing them in 2d QC style comic form does not bother me.
