They never got anyone to match Roiland's edgy energy so its a flanderized cast following a production loop of character focuses, observation on writing tropes, and the occasion continuity callbacks. I haven't thought about Ricken Morty since "Evil Morty" escaped the cluster of universes that the Ricks had built a wall around so that they were always the smarted person in their universe. It was a perfectly reasonable "send-off" for the show. Lucky it lined-up so perfectly with, well, y'know... them firing the guy who voiced 90% of the characters on the show.

People like anime not because of the Japanese-ness of it, but because it all too often happens to have much nicer production values and genuinely looks much much better than the minimalist simple shit they make in the west. People see scifi anime, they expect over the top visuals and effects.

Then they made this shit as cheap and minimalist as they possibly could. So R&M fans were not interested, anime fans were not interested, and normies wrote this show off like four years earlier anyway.

That would've been extra work for the regular voice cast, a cast that I'm sure is already hard to get into the studio since Chris Parnell gets tons of work still. You also have to remember that dubbing a Japanese production requires a very different skillset than performing an original voice-over role from an English script that encourages occasional improv.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewers head. There's also Ricks nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation of his personal philosophy which draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots, of course they would'nt appreciate, for instance, the humour in Ricks existential catchphrase Wubba Lubba Dub Dub, which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenevs Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmons genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. And yes, by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. I think one of the reasons people associate anime with such a specific aesthetic is because they never got much exposure to kodomo anime when they were kids. I mean, in the U.S., shows like Doraemon or Shin-chan are pretty much unknown to most people, right? I ultimately think that this video is wrong about the problems of writing. Even if you remove the swearing and Marvel humor from the Castlevania cartoon, it would still be shit. The same could be said about Rick and Morty. It is an insecure coating masking the soulless evil story and message. Even the faggots whom these cartoons are made to appeal are sick of the irony. I hate how people use the word "sincerity" like how them being ashamed of their myopic worldview is the real problem.
