No. It happened entirely off-screen. Captain Sunshine only mentioned once in the early seasons (3, I think) where Monarc tells Truckulese about how he fooled Cpt. Sunshine into thinking he's invulnerable. When Sunshine actually shows up in a later season, Monarch tells Shiela about how he got drunk and killed Wonderboy when she was back with Phantom Limb in season 2.

The show is probably not coming back, but we could get a comic or something. I'd love to see an anthology bouncing between different characters in Venture Bros, like have an issue focusing on the Order of the Triad, or one on Guild internal affairs, etc.

I dont think so, Gunn's Superman for instance has no place in the Venture Bros universe. He's a classic superhero and a total boy scout. The Justice Gang is closer to the mark but even theyre just good guys. Nobody is "just a good guy" in the Venture Bros, everyone is self level of self interested and mundane; JJ is a businessman, Orpheus is a divorced dad plying a trade and The Venture Brothers are ultimately just kids being kids. If they're not mundane and self interested then they're morally complicated in some way; Captain Sunshine is a pedophile, OG Team Venture were bastards, Brock is a sadistic Gman, etc.

I think Gunn's going more for a Bruce Timm vibe. Things are grounded enough that nothing is too fantastical but at the same time its stylized enough to comfortably host someone like Superman. The many b side cameos are part of this.

Think the problem isn't just him but everyone who work on super hero media now. Everyone wants to be "Le subversive or Le superheroes are lame" but the problem is it's hard/impossible to do within the medium.

It's why most parody comics succeed at what the main line comics and movies fail at. No one wants to watch super man and see him shit on for 2hrs or for a whole comic run etc. But we'll check out a series that tries to re write him or take the piss at him because we know it's not him and it's just a 3rd party. Almost like your friends sitting around a table and shitting on some random plot line or character, theirs a level of divide from the real thing. But when they are in charge of these mediums and go "no you are right captain america is a nazi or a schizo american soldier, or spider man is a nerdy cuck loser, or superman is evil, etc" this ruins the fundamental thing they are trying to parody as you aren't in a position to parody it.

>Also most people that make good parody love or at least know the medium they are critiquing.
Aka why most know the boys comic is pretty cringe, but shows like venture bros with similar humor is much better. As you can tell the creators love or at least respect the medium they are parodying, unlike the boys which at times boiled into edgy hate power fantasy.

Venture Bros is lightning in a bottle. Many people try; not because they are actively trying to be Venture Bros but because, it is a style that resonates with a lot of people. There are plenty of shows people say are tangentially like Venture Bros but I think that they lack something.

The most obvious example is the Harley Quinn Show. It doesn't work because 1) it is an official DC thing so it is subject to their stupid bullshit 2) it isn't really made by fans of comics. It still uses comic book morality without asking why people would act that way. The only difference between the heroes and villains in the show is that the heroes don't kill.

Season 1-3 Monarch was an inept saturday morning cartoon villain that was running around in a more real world setting where his antics had actual consequences towards everyone else. Like every time he attacked some place people died. When he invaded the Venture compound Brock killed a third of his minions.

Then Season 4-7 Monarch was the only same member of the main cast with real world experience and a grasp of the normal world, but still put on a costume and played hero and villain to entertain himself since he was a bored rich guy. Most villains by then were jaded rich or bored guys who put on a costume and used a villain name while still doing their normal thing like Doom Factory. Monarch spent more time narrating to the viewer how weird and stupid that world is since it's filled with people in costumes playing games in public.

I feel like guys like Bendis took VB to heart way too much. Since he really seemed to like writing all villains as pathetic losers wearing pajamas in public and only maybe Doom is an actual supervillain that does villain stuff.

He became more corporate/into the system. Monarch was basically a really strong upstart in the villainy scene and other villains even ended up respecting him just for his passion of the thing, then he started spending more and more time with the Ventures, his wife started being the "bigger" villain as she climbed the Guild's ranks and he found himself a bit lost because all he ever cared about was fucking with Dr. Venture while everybody else seemed to be moving forward with their ambitions. The reason why he's the one that points out all the "stupid costume" stuff is because that costume stuff starts to limit him more and more as he grows more and more notorious. If Venture had remained a has-been shitty doctor, he'd be unironically happier, because then he'd be the only person that cared enough about him to arch him, but as Venture "improved", he couldn't "improve" as fast as him and started to resent the guild/villain rules.

Season 1 had an angle that worked. Then Season 2 came out and the superheroes are just as vain and superficial as the villains in almost the same way. It also starts to feel like he's being burned out by it all in the later seasons.
In the beginning he just legitimately hates Rusty. That's it, that's all that matters and it works and you don't even really question it. Later on in the series it feels like he has moments of genuine passion but is mostly forcing himself. Even his Blue Morpho phase feels like he's justspiting the system he resents than it does trying to get back his arching rights against Rusty.
By the final season it feels like he's mostly just comfortable and resentful of that. You hear it when 21 is promoted to a full villain status during Monarch's Tenning. The idea of starting over alone completely ruins it for him. He'd rather quit outright than be a level 10 villain by himself because he can't really do it anymore. He needs someone to make it all fun, his anger just isn't enough anymore. He's too old to start over.

You can ultimately have a sentimental core at the center of the vile human that was Jonas. There's a lot of parallels between Rusty and Jonas the difference being that we see Rusty's reasoning for why he became what he is as well as occasionally seeing him genuinely get over himself to care for the Boys but we never get that for Jonas. Not to mention even his "good parenting" is undercut by the fact he was doing so by tracking Rusty via the unknown locator tooth. Not to mention narcissistic parents love to maintain a presence in their children's lives even if they move away or even try to totally go no contact. Jonas being a "good parent" is still predicated on him being possessive of Rusty and not really respecting him as a person.

Also, they are not really all THAT different from their parents when it comes down to it, they just happened to have Rusty as a parent that really isn't the best teacher/mentor to have. It's even mostly implied that Rusty is self-taught with his science stuff, just fiddling around with old Jonas inventions rather than Jonas being a particularly good teacher.

Rusty just didn't know how to even begin teaching the kids how to be proper scientists or adventurers and when given the opportunity to learn, the boys learned pretty quickly. Hank got through SPHINX training really well and was clearly a resourcerful person, especially in that episode where he was basically batman. Dean, when given enough reinforcement and support, started to improve as a researcher at the very end of the show. They were just stuck in this enclosed world of super-science and never got the chance to experience the world and test their skill until after the clones were all killed.
