I'm at the point Operation Galactic Storm happens reading Avengers and you seem like the space people to ask. Should I bother reading all the tie-ins? I'm kind of annoyed by all these dumb-ass event/cross book storylines that keep happening.

Are you asking for Carol specifically? The Quasar tie-in is important for her I remember.
If not, try reading through the main event and whatever books you're interested in and see if things still make sense. Some events work like that, and if not (modern) ones will have a reading order printed in them usually.
