Energon is widely regarded as the worst Transformers series. Or at least, it was for a long time, I don't know if anything relatively new came along to dethrone it from its toilet shit throne. Is a new series based on it an attempt to "fix" it or do it right?

so Void Rivals 1 - 6 is adapted first, then we get Transformers, then they do the Duke miniseries and cycle that through. that way it gives everything time to breathe while Kirkman keeps cooking up story with the actual comics.

As far as we know, it's 1 show of the entire Energon Universe (so far). So Transformers, Void Rivals, and GI Joe
They'll probably restructure it so it's more linear narrative. So you'll get some Void Rival episodes, some Transformers episodes, and some Gi Joe episodes. Possibly a few episodes containing all 3 at the same time. And maybe a few show-only episodes to tidy up the narrative/timeline more
Depending on when it gets made and when it airs, i can see it ending at the end of the Battle of Chicago

Snake-Eyes surprisingly hasn't shown up in the Energon Universe yet. It is genuinely baffling, but I guess it's a good sign that the creators are confident enough that they can tell stories without him so that they can focus on other characters and save him for later.
I don't know if an animated series would have that same level of restraint though, Hasbro would probably insist to have him there from day one so that they can shill more toys.

Is it going to be like some anime adaptations go, where they take the setup from the manga but are running concurrently and outpace the manga, and thus end up making tons of stuff up or going in a completely different direction?

Or is it going to use Skybound's setup/status quo as a basis, but adapt stories from Marvel US/UK, Dreamwave, IDW?
If anything it's bizarre that they aren't adapting the old comics directly, considering they're all very well-renowned, you know... finished stories (more or less). Extremely well-renowned ones that the fanbase adores but are unknown to normies, at that.

Then again, even Marvel and DC are rushing to adapt stories from the past 10-15 years instead of any of the classics, themselves. Man this sucks.

According to the article this adaptation would include every other EU comic like G.I. Joe and Void Rivals, which coupled with TF, the Duke, Scarlet, Cobra and Destro miniseries and the annual specials would give them 83 comics in total to adapt so far, not entirely impossible to make a show out of that seeing how Invincible is about to get a fourth season while also having barely covered 65 issues from the original comic.
Also, I feel like I shouldn't need to clear this up, of fucking course they don't have everything ready to release in just a few months, this shit's barely just a pitch for now and is obviously gonna take a good couple of years to come to fruition, they'll 100% have double the amount of stuff to adapt by the time a first season is released, and that's IF this is actually picked up.

I mean, sure. But I'm just very much, uh... pessimistic about its pacing. It's been 2 years, and Skybound TF's gone through what would've occupied only a single miniseries in the 2000s. And Void Rivals was even slower! So knowing Kirkman's doing the main title directly now, doesn't fill me with hope that it'll pick up speed. I'm just so unexcited about the comics completely.

And all three of these books are in the setup phase:
-the complete GI Joe team with the mainstays hasn't even formed it and right now they are split in two different teams
-the Joe team and Earth-bound Autobots haven't evenmet and we don't know how the stuff in Void Rivals will impact the main TF book and the main Joe book if it even crosses over.
-the MASK stuff is just barely beginning

Right now we are still in the set up stage and it's probably going to take another 30 issues before we have a clearer picture of the Energon Universe's direction

That's still only as much as Invincible S1. But I think it's people believing the show is in production right now when they don't have a platform yet. I bet they'll take 4 years to release the first season, and by then there'll be enough content to adapt slowly. Not as much as Invincible of course, some awkwardness might still happen, but enough that it's not a Game of Thrones situation where the show passes over the comic.
