Pretty much. Mitchells vs the Machines feels like a script that must've been sitting on an old hard drive for a couple years before getting picked up by a studio. The emotional beats hit, but the comedy was hit-or-miss (teetering more on miss).

I feel like it's more that Netflix wants to create a movie about AI since it's a relevant topic but since all the big studios are currently under the belief that originals fail and existing IP doesn't they're forcing a sequel to this movie to do a topic they wanna talk about

I don't really think this movie needed a sequel, but we live in era where no one wants to leave anything be with just one movie. The first one was fine and fun. I hope this works out.
