Jokes aside Aku's a mercurial creature, pardon the pun, he seemed actually grateful and willing to let Jack's father live through whatever terror he was going to subject the world to simply for seemingly freeing him to do so, and as much as he wants to kill Jack for interfering and trying to slay him all these years he also shows actual amusement at times from their antics contrast his interactions with others who he barely acknowledges.
But I don't think Aku would have held back from the chance to make Jack feel gullible, plus Aku's shown to actually get up to things to increase and maintain his power so he couldn't risk some other being usurping him in his absence.
