Danny Antonucci is pretty against digital artwork and originally pitched an adult animated series to Netflix but left over creative differences (Netflix thought the shows artstyle looked too much like a kids show and wanted to make it PG-13 cause I guess the only adult animation they want is Big Mouth shit), I’m pretty sure Genndy is also open about giving freedom to animators.

I believe that in order to have a show with a variety of unique expressions and character designs, you need a variety of different artists in the team. Some artists are better at drawing certain character expressions than others, some artists are better at drawing certain character designs than others. It’s all because every artist has a style that’s a culmination of what they can and can’t do, so all of them together drawing in a shows style can help add their strong stylistic attributes to the show and have them all contribute to its look. John K girls don’t look the best, many hot girls from the OG Ren & Stimpy series are likely to be Lynn Naylor designs, and yes, many large and fat or muscular men are all the work of Jim Smith, and many of those flatter expressions from the Games era are Chris Reccardis. The happy happy joy joy of Ren & Stimpy is that you can sometimes tell which artist drew which, and I know for a fact that the curvy sexy girls in the show aren’t his designs.

Nick Cross example is a do-over of a John K "energy sketch", Bill Wray's masterful painting could be of another artist's drawing, most of these are character layouts which are mostly translations of storyboard drawings done by someone else (granted they would add poses).

I mean tbf in APC you can easily tell when a scene is a layout by Nick Cross, as he has a quite distinctive style. Mostly he draws Ren more monstrously and the biggest giveaway is when you see him with lines in his pupils.

It's a shame we cant talk about how much John sucks without bringing up his pedophilia. Its easy enough to do and his fans have no counter points.

1. Most of his designs aren't really interesting. His later stuff like Liquor, idiot boy, ripping friends, are just not interesting. Ren and Stimpy were some B or C ideas in a portfolio, based on some talks at parties with friends. He didnt enter his pitch meeting to pitch the show we got.

2. He's a crazy asshole. Daddy issues on full display. No shortage of stories from those that worked with him making him look like an ogre. Did unstable shit like make up fake names to write animation magazines and shit talk other shows.

3. His obsession with animator driven shows played a part in why we get shit like new she ra now. He preached this and preached this until it is taken as a fact that shows should never sell toys, have stand alone writers, and be driven and written by the animators and not by a fundamental idea that the show should appeal to viewers. He is grownd zero for making cartoons for the staff and not you, the viewer.

Unprofessional. Its in how he can't meet deadlines and how he treats people. Even if you support him fucking young women, you have to admit its pretty unprofessional to keep giving jobs to people to sling cock to them. Add that to not meeting deadlines and yelling and screaming at work and you paint the inage of a bozo that should have never been a show runner. Most of the complaints about him wouldn't exist if he would have never had received a leadership position
