I guess I see them that way because I grew up in a culture that actually has a third gender expression beyond man/woman, complete with its own typical gender roles and stereotypical jobs (like how you'd be surprised, even today, to see a woman working construction or as a trash collector or a man as a preschool teacher or social worker). But unlike trans, neither we nor they kid anyone about them being men in dresses. Stereotypically, they're domestic workers and fortune tellers. My grandma employed a few because "they're finicky like a woman but strong like men" so they can move furniture to clean under them and shit lmao
And actually, they hate transpeople, which is kinda funny. They see themselves as natural thing and transfolks as surgical abomination who bring degeneracy into society, which is kind of hilarious considering most people here would see them as faggot degenerates, too.
There was even a news article some years ago about how they marched to kick trans foreigners out. And they did. They even beat a few of them up. It's all really strange to anglos that not only have these people existed for centuries, that this is in Western Europe. I'm from Naples, Italy.
