I mean I’m a nuseasons enjoyer and I can also agree that season one looked the best, seasons 2-3 don’t look bad but you can just tell that they look weak in comparison, not to mention they also had "markerbob" (episodes animated by a division of Rough Draft Korea where more expressive movements were toned down in the animation process and made more lifeless as a result). I like the wackier animation of the modern seasons but it just can’t beat the charm of cel animation.

Seasons 2 and 3 art and animation worked better with the humor of those seasons. No time wasted delivering the best jokes and episodes of the series.

So, everyone can at least agree Mr. Krabs is a morally repulsive, evil cunt, right? Plankton and the Dutchman are way kinder characters. Eugene is just always a piece of shit, no matter what. Seeing him without his shell also makes my skin crawl and my subconscious panic.

He has some semblance of humanity because of Pearl. He has to take care of her and feed her, which costs money. And she's a literal whale so she must eat a lot. And he's shown both genuine concern for Spongebob and remorse for his actions if they brings him to arm. Somewhere inside of that cold chitinous shell of a crab beats a warm heart. Somewhere.

The concept art before the show began was even visually appealing, the artstyle of the show in the early days is one of the best I've seen.

Definitely one of the reasons I loved watching it when I was growing up

Current SpongeBob is the best it's ever looked and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

I mean it’s not my favorite artstyle for the show, but it does look really good for a modern cartoon. It’s nice to see a fully cartoonist driven show these days when all other modern cartoons look like absolute garbage like this, but at the same time, the writing is incredibly style-over-substance and it’d be best to just to make a new show with this style rather than not letting a zombie show die.

Come the fuck on Guy, knowing you you should hate stiff and lifeless animation, cause that’s what what seasons 6-9 had, that era is critically panned for a reason.

S1 had the best 'designs' for lack of a better word.
>Spongebob wasn't a box or a square, he was a sponge and his body compared to his clothes showed how he was structured
>Patrick was an actual big guy to Spongebob's little guy and a few rare shots in S2-3 showed this with him being Squidward's height, plus the cel animation made him more dynamic as a starfish instead of the stiff pink statue he turned into later on
>Sandy was also shorter than Patrick, in S2/3 she's either his height or even taller than him
>Krabs was the one who was consistent from start to finish design-wise, his personality was the real issue
Cel animation also means they have to be consistent with scaling.
