Norman Osborn is the ideal for the evil Batman that DC keeps trying to create but always fails at and I will die on this hill. He's got it all
>Wealthy billionaire who's physically fit, naturally or otherwise
>Has a double life where he spends his free time dressing up in a Halloween costume and beating the piss out of people
>Personality does a 180 between personas, Bruce goes from an eccentric billionaire to cold and brooding, Norman switches between shrewd socialite to cackling madman
>Both of them have a whole slew of gadgets at their disposal that they always use in fights, Bruce primarily fights with Batarangs for ranged weapons while Norman just bombs the shit out of people
>100% mentally unstable and unwell, just in different ways
If you were to replace one of those fucks like TBWL or Wrath or whatever with Norman then the quality would drastically improve.

I’d love a crossover that includes something like a clarity fundraiser, but with some over-the-top passive aggressive bs between Bruce and Norman.

>Wayne wants to inspire young heroes; Osborn grooms inheritors of his empire.
>control freaks
>genuine public philanthropy vs influence-peddling
>Bruce fell into a cave, became terrified by bats. He made that fear his armor. Norman was haunted by goblin visions born from trauma and became the monster that broke him.
>are haunted by the idea of legacy
>Batman instills fear to deter criminals; Goblin weaponizes fear to rule them.

I could name more stories and arcs, but for some reason this fandom treats The Night Gwen Stacy Died like sacred text. Not just for its impact, but for the writing itself. I've decided there's no accounting for taste.

>be me, comic reader
> see red hair, think “oh unique visual cue”
>read the maniacal cackle
>read origin: abusive, alcoholic dad.
>Grim, mostly believable trauma setup
>panels keep showing rages and outbursts, start to notice a pattern
>costume is green and looks suspiciously fae-adjacent, pointy ears, mischievous laugh
> dude builds and launches his own homemade bombs
>This parallels real-world associations with Irish nationalist violence and bombings
>stages headline-grabbing freakouts like it’s performance art for psychopaths and favors spectacle over subtlety
>Theatrical violence and chaos mirror how Irish rebels or radicals were depicted as irrational and attention-seeking.
> kid dragged into the mess, dysfunction presented like family curse
>plays into the “cursed bloodline” trope applied to Irish families in fiction.
>pause because historically Irishness has been framed as violent, uncivilized, vendetta-driven and prone to clan justice
> writers label him “wild”, "fiery", and “unstable” "Creature" and casting into doubt whether he's even human
>artists + dialogue keep emphasizing the hair, the sneer, the grotesque close-ups
>19th-century anti-Irish propaganda depicted Irish as animalistic/subhuman
>dialogue occasionally slip into mocking speech rhythms and riddles that read sketchy
>resembles minstrel-style “trickster Celt” caricature + reinforcing ethnic mockery
>see infamous plot beat: women kidnapped and babies snatched
>Recall old myths and xenophobic fears about Irish communities stealing women + children
> story treats ambition and violence as inherent traits, not choices
>suggesting morality is inborn and echoes racialized determinism
> keep reading and a sudden thought bubbles up
> oh right, red hair + drunken Irish patriarch + cult leader + Catholic + mad bomber + green “folklore” costume + moralizing violence + baby snatcher
Norman's got some historical anti-Irish trauma to work through, huh.

Why doesn't Spider-man just kill Norman Osborne?

Spider-Man is currently Norman Osborn. He seems to prefer being killed than do the deed himself.

I really enjoyed the story arcs by Miller in Marvel Knights and then Ellis in Thunderbolts. Spectacular Spider-Man magazine #2 is fun. Trick of the Light is good and I wish he tortured Peter like that more often. Osborn: evil incarcerated was nice. The one where Kingpin tries to murder him is so funny because of the elevator scene. The one where Norman trashes Peter's apartment and rage baits him into beating him in front of cameras. I also kinda liked the one where Kingsley realises "Holy shit, you know who Spider-Man is, don't you?"

He's never called Peter a filthy protestant heathen so most evil Catholics in fiction would probably say he needs to lock the fuck in.
