And spiderverse looked godawful. No idea what you've seen in it, but considering that you decided to attribute 3 masterpieces a year to animes, I kinda see what went wrong.
I wouldn't say western had 3 masterpieces a year, that's a little excessive, but at least once a year compared to east's once a decade or so.
Nothing good released since Pluto in 2023, that's quite recent, but I don't even remember when something good before it released. All I can think of were straight manga adaptations from 10-15 years ago or more.

I genuinely think the class war stuff in the first season was almost accidental. Sort of like how we found out the story of bioshock 1 is accidentally good after playing infinite. The series didn’t seem to understand that the wealthy were directly responsible for the poor being poor. They treated the class divide as jealousy, not one side imposing it upon the other.

The story is set up as a traditional "haves vs have-nots", but the characters in-story and the writers themselves view the story as "the nation of haves vs the nation of have-nots", and at the end it's all wrapped up with "awww, the have-nots get one seat at the table, look we're a democracy now!" Which is just neoliberal garbage.
Either go full commie and have the poor hang the rich, or go full nationalist and let Zaun be independent. Instead we get a return to status quo with a very small asterisk.

The issue was the exact opposite, the politics and characterization were the most compelling parts of Arcane's story and then S2 pivoted towards a "save the world" storyline that immediately resolved the Piltover vs Zaun conflict that defined S1.

It's the ASOIAF problem all over again. The best part was the character drama and politicking but the story is inherently about a giant zombie invasion encroaching the world and everyone needing to unite against it, which is way less interesting.
