On one hand, i don't see anything wrong with that.
Peter's been a teen now for almost 60+ years. Been there, done that, many stories, for the best and the worst have been made with him.
The point of a story is to see progression. Seeing a 17-18 Peter is now hasbeen. We need to see what he's up to after. This is why i for one, like the Spider-verse stories. Because aside from seeing the story from Miles perspective, Peter is now a settled man, with the love of his life, Mary Jane, and has a daughter, Mayday. he moved on. Like as Guile would say, Go home and be a family man dammit.
On the other hand, i do agree that Marvel's approach with Miles can be slightly messed up. What they should have done with him from start, is making him Peter's Robin, with his own stuff and gimmick, while still being a spider-bro, and then graduate in his own lane like a Nightwing.
Also, what they should have done with Gwen Stacy, because yes, some guy somehow seethe about that even though she's been killed off in like 99% of Peter's stories including with Gwen, is the "Gwen" that is Miles' love interest would have been the "daughter of the Gwen Peter used to hook up with" like a "Gwenaelle Stacy" instead of the "Gwendolyne Maxine Stacy" that is (was) considered "Peter's Gwen" that Miles "stole". There, both Spideys get their own Gwen without being technically the same Gwen. So we could have
>Peter as Batman
>Miles as Robin/Nightwing
>Gwenaelle (NOT Gwendolyne) as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon
