If Smiling Friends was 10x as popular it would almost certainly get more hate, but it's a better show than Vuv's stuff in general (even if the consensus were that it's hit-and-miss, that would make it better than HH/HB since the latter never hits)

I have never watched Hazbin Hotel and probably won't because I'm not interested, is there a reason it attracts the most ridiculous fucking haters? Like there's these mega autists everywhere who make 3 hour essays on why it's bad and acting all parasocially creepy and stalkerish towards the creator, and I'm just sitting here like "don't watch the fucking show?"

It's bad for infinitely more reasons than just the fanbase but "retarded people that I dislike flock to this thing, therefore it's probably bad" is not at all an unreasonable position and in fact is a pretty good indicator as to the quality of the thing in most cases

Though if you ask me about Rebecca Sugar vs Viv, I'd say Viv deserves it more, but I really don't think either of these shows have deserve the kind of hatedom they've garnered. Like both are really just 5-7/10s a lot of the time and are still at least worth seeing a bit of it even if you duck out at it's worst.

Because they're biased (and in more extreme cases misogynistic) but refuse to acknowledge that they are. Therefore they can't ever correct their behavior due to a lack of self awareness, therefore they perpetually act uncharitably or hypocritically

They take things that are personal preferences (e.g. I don't like a lot of swearing in shows), then use that as a guise to write off a show completely with their underlying bias being the real motivator behind their hatred of the show. If they actually knew how to critique or judge a show fairly, their critiques would involve more technical aspects of the show beyond normie surface level observations.
