personally I think there's like 3 different eras. Classic family guy is up to season 3. Then we have what I call the first hated version of family guy which lasts pretty much up until And then there were fewer. That's when we get to Nu-family guy which stopped giving a shit.

You can tell the difference between those two by how much brian gets sucked off by the writers. The other just straight up tells you what the episode is about within the first two minutes and just goes through the motion. The series really got lazy/I think the writers are so stuck up their own asses that they think pointing out their own tropes is top comedy.

Seasons 4 - 9 still felt like they were trying. There were special episodes and effort in the plots. After that it became purely a gag show.

yeah it seemed like they wanted to get that brass ring of an Emmy but after a while I guess they realized that it's just a check. I do think season 4-9 are actually watchable and get too much hate. Just wished they kept trying. It's interesting seeing the trajectory of this and American Dad.

Honestly I wonder if coming back to fox will ruin AD.

Seasons 1-3 are some of the funniest television ever created. Seasons 4 and 5 are still pretty decent and funny despite not being to the level of pre cancellation. Season 6 onward is just NOT FUCKING FUNNY. I challenge you to watch anything from season 6-8 and tell me if you find something funny, not "kind of clever" not "entertaining" but actually haha funny. Even as a kid I could tell quality had dropped.

- FG starts doing unecessary jabs at Christians (easy target)
- Lois Griffin literally rapes Peter Griffin for being abstinent
- Brian Griffin says he know his girlfriend has bulimia but he does nothing to stop it cause it makes her body look hot
It is the episode where they started to make Brian into this shallow douche we know today.

Season 13 is often considered to be especially bad, and about when the meme of it having become 99% cutaway gags. But I consider it to be the end of "Classic Family Guy". Season 14 onward feels very nu. Lots stuff that feels like it was the millenial intern's idea.

Quality starts to dip after the revival, but Season 10 is the second golden age (downhill since then).
