This little project has been floundering in a mediocre pool since the early days of the internet. No idea how or why it's still around. It's tried launching an animated series for years. It's just le heckin quirky furry prohibition-age gangsters.

It's not even that good story-wise, the art was extremely high quality back in the day for being a furry webcomic, but it went no where after it ended. It's actually pretty close to normie tier slop and the story wouldn't change really if it was just humans instead, so the only flavoring that makes it unique is furry cats.

They literally didn't need viv, or anyone. They made more than 3x the amount initially asked. Glitch just wanted to get a piece of the obvious gold mine the show is going to be and offered even more cash that they couldn't refuse. The artwork is beautiful but the story is quite bland and the characters are charming but not super interesting. I think this is something Tracy should have developed into a visual novel. Webcomics take forever and are mostly unprofitable. Animation is taking forever too and while it will probably be profitable we are missing out on Tracy's gorgeous art. A visual novel would allow her to get her story out faster because re-use of art assets is part of the medium's artistic conventions and something people are okay with. She could make and reuse character sprites and backgrounds where needed.

iirc Tracy said them being cats was more fun to draw and made the characters look more expressive and visually memorable. I don't think it was the wrong choice; her human art is nice but not special and looks like it takes even longer for her to draw. Her cat designs don't look 'furry' the way a lot of furry artwork does so even your normie grandma would think they look cute. The story is just so-so, even with Tracy's high level of skill I just don't think her story would have gotten any traction online if they were humans. Just not as visually interesting or memorable, less reason to share it with friends. Her human art is just sort of bland and even if she was able to get popularity when starting I do not think she would have been able to retain it without autistic furry support as popular tastes started shifting towards anime and manga inspired artstyles.

I absolutely do not doubt the skill in pic related, but you can't say it doesn't look time consuming to make and honestly, sadly, I think people would consider the artstyle 'dated'. She avoids that with her cat designs.

the comics are great and all, but I want to read the blacksad/boardwalk empire graphic novel, too. In the last few on the website it starts to get srs'd the fuck up and was really exciting but then just as it was getting awesome it stopped updating.

I'm not sure who leaked the discord stuff, but there is quite a few receipts of it.
Vivzie seems to have formed a cult of personality and only lets her most loyal fans gain prominence in her circles.If the rumors about working at SpindleHorse are to be believed.

Whatever the case, there had to be some serious backroom drama for Fable/Tracey to reject Vivzie's donation and shut her down. That's not just a passing thing they decided to reject.

Tracey doesn't seem to be one for drama so something is going on.

Well, probably because Vivzie is a narcassist that has made a workplace into being deeply invested in the project. Most of the people she hires are fledgling animators and usually their first professional jobs.

So it's not enough to work with Vivzie at Spindlehorse, you need to pledge your loyalty to the company and the product.

So any new indie shows = competition = people may stray from Spindlehorse projects and spend less money on their merch = less money for animators and most importantly Vivzie.

Also people may wake up and realize Vivziepop's shows are kind of shit.

Viv's donation to the kickstarter would have gotten her "associate producer" credit.
That's a cute thing to give some "suspiciously-wealthy furry" that coughed up $5,000 to help make the cartoon happen.
Letting Viv put "Associate Producer: Lackadaisy" on her resume was a very different kettle of fish. Since they were already sure of funding it makes total sense that Tracy went "uh... thanks but that doesn't feel appropriate."
