These ads embody the corporate ass illumination Grinch, this isn’t the fucking Grinch, it’s some grumpy ass neighbor type made to be le quirky and relatable to millennials, "oh my god he lives alone with his dog, stress eats, and so thinks the holidays are overrated he’s just like me". Even the design conveys this, it’s not just that it’s in that generic ass Disneyfied artstyle you see in every fucking animated film but the fact that it doesn’t fit the Grinch at all. The song in the movie literally says that he’s as "cuddly as a cactus" and has "teeth all yellow" despite looking soft and clean and having pearly white teeth. We were robbed of this far better design for him.

I fucking love the concept art for this, it looks dark and Tim Burton-like and I’m interested in how this would’ve translated into CGI at the time. From what I’ve seen that show looks like a special kind of retarded, it looks like Ducktales 2017-level loreshit and does a shit job at replicating Dr. Seuss’s artstyle. They’re all in that shitty generic disneyfied calarts style and look like characters out of a PBS Kids show, compare this to people like Chuck Jones and Ralph Bakshi who did a far better job at translating Seuss into animation.
