I've just finished watching Season 6 of Adventure Time, as well as Season 5, just to catch up on the series and the Fionna and Cake special. And man, that was mostly garbage! Does anyone else notice how weird the series felt after the episode Frost and Fire came out? I kind of liked some episodes, and they were good, but other than that, what are all of your thoughts on it when it premiered?

Got busy with life a few episodes before the finale. Didn't come back till stakes then left again after not bothering to watch in between.

Even as a teen/young adult who hadnt discovered /co/ yet i HATED the continued punished finn/FP break up arc and it hit too close to home personally for me because i was dealing with break ups and loneliness heavily at the time. Yes, I did, unfortunately, watch that episode. And I have a lot of things to say about that, more especially with how Finn got his arm back, which is such a cop-out. Not to be cynical with Finn but I honestly would have him without his arm and left with just robo arm or no arm instead. They didn't need to bring it back after what just happen.

Season 6 is polarizing. I dug it. Has some of my favourite eps like EftC, YFYF, Is That You, Little Brother, Evergreen, The Diary, Jermaine Walnuts and Rain, Graybles 1000+... It's more abstract, less funny, and you're not alone in not caring for it. I think it deserves respect for pushing the envelope regardless.

Season 7 is more grounded, less conceptual than season 6, so you may enjoy it more. I thought it struck a nice balance. Season 8-10 on is more plot driven as it tries to resolve the loose ends.

No, season 6 is one of the best seasons, not trolling. Breezy was a really weird one though, didn't like it when I was a kid, and I still think it's a bit weirdly sexual.

Adding on to this, while characters like PB and even Marcy could often be depicted as being in the wrong in various episodes, Finn pretty consistently was depicted as a righteous paragon who'd even be the one who'd correct PB or Marcy's bad behavior. It's only really a few episodes of the Flame Princess breakup arc where Finn isn't this noble paragon figure, and those episodes are generally considered the worst part of the series.
Really, the idea the writers hated Finn just doesn't add up, unless literally the only thing you value in the series is whether a character ended with a clear romantic partner or not. In which case sure, PB and Marcy have that going for them.

Honestly hate the HW and Finn ship in this new season of F&C. So outta left field and makes no sense lol have never hated a ship more in my life, honestly would've been happier if they made Finn die alone then shove him into a random romance that makes no sense. This whole story line where she saves his life is killllllling me. And has she always been able to turn into any plant or animal at will? That seems like a major inclusion that should've shown up in the original and is just being added to make her character seem cooler for being Finn's love interest

The Comet was where I stopped watching. It just wasn’t the same show anymore and it clearly didn’t want to be. I know Stakes was right after and I still am not going to watch it. Most don't start on episode one, they usually start with whatever the new special is and if they like it enough revisit the older materials. This makes a different frame of what you expect of the show. You and I saw the start of the series so we had a framing of this silly kids show about a boy and hid dog having adventures. If our first exposure was this Fionna and Cake show or say even say post season 6, would we have any appetite to go back to the start and watch all of this? Very unlikely, we sooner cut our loses than risk more of what it is. The people that do like it however will stick around and if they go to the start they won't care that the show is no longer that show anymore because that wasn't what got them into it.

For context, season 5 and 6 are after Sugar had fully left the show and a lot of the other writers who where there at the time had also went to do other things. The people who were left where some notiable interesting people who hated Finn/project their insecurities onto him while also tried to be Sugar 2 but just weren't.
The series picked up agien when they start doing mini-arcs even if those also have problems.

He was then a nothing burger in his own series finale with no satisfying conclusion while they give a ton of fanservice to bubbline shippers. They never topped him ripping the Lich's skull in half with a sweater. I feel like they always been a forced pairing, just something to give Finn so he doesn't end the series alone. HW lacks a lot of backstory they only JUST providing with Fionna and Cake, and she never got the typical "lets do an adventure" episode Marcy, PB, and Flame Princess all got thanks to coming so close to the end. Though I can at least say they are pretty cute, enough that I am salty that it is looking like they are cucking Finn A G A I N.

That's why people think the writers don't like Finn, or at least writing for him. Dude eats a LOT of Ls in no part of his ow actionsn, and they never really build him up in the same way they do for everyone, despite being objectively worse people. Even if you view him not the main character of his own show or that the other characters are better, it really does say something the only story they can tell with him is just losing everything and gaining nothing. His arm, his sword, his gf, his house, his dad, his dog. It what makes a lot of his introspection and critical episodes feel so hollow, nothing he does will improve his life.
