Why is Mayor Quimby a democrat?
Matt Groening and the rest of the Simpsons writers were clearly liberals, so why did they make Springfield's corrupt mayor a democrat instead of a republican? Especially since you never actually see Quimby do anything one would associate with democrats like social justice, the only thing remotely like a democrat about him is that he's meant to be a parody of the Kennedys. If anything he often acts like a right-wing strawman like that time he tried to deflect on the city's issues by blaming illegal immigrants or trying to stop Lisa from exposing historical truths about Jebediah Springfield.

A "proper" democrat like what you imagine could probably never get elected in a relatively small and mostly white town full of conservative idiots who all go to Church like Springfield. More importantly, Simpsons writers were boomers raised in the 50s and 60s writing about politics in the 80s and 90s, and the democratic party of today is very different from what it once was.

Quimby was originally meant to be a generic corrupt politician not beloning to any party, the only reason he's explicitly a democrat is because of the episode where Sideshow Bob defeats him in the mayoral race, and due to the Kelsey Grammer reference Bob had to be a Republican, and thus Quimby had to be a Democrat by default.
The reason Quimby is only ever shown doing right-wing strawman things whenever he's the bad guy of the episode is precisely because the writers are liberals. They can't conceive of bad things that somebody implementing left-wing policies would do.

Just looking at this I can tell the increase in Republican "asians" between 2004 and 2020 is because of H-1B visa shit bringing so much more of them to the United States. Combine that with a shrinking white demographic and it's obvious the Republicans haven't seen some huge change while the Democrats are turning into a ghetto full of screaming women and faggots.

Minorities vote Democrat because Lyndon B enacted the most effective psyop on niggers in American history, where they willingly re-integrated into slavery in exchange for a welfare state, the race-wide throwing in the towel and giving up to be useless niggers eternally. Lyndon's plan was so effective that other sorts of brown parasites now also immigrate to the USA illegal to immediate get on the dole and soak up welfare that always increases when Democrats gain power. Then they too vote Democrat, because that's all the party amounts to: bribing worthless people to use the power of voting (that they shouldn't even have, it was designed for white landowners to prevent scams like Lyndon's) to ensure Democrats remain in power. Something that will very realistically come to pass anyway as white people are an ever shrinking demographic, and all non-whites vote overwhelmingly for Democrat welfare.

Stealth politics thread. Corruption in politics isn't unique to any one group and anyone trying to push you into tribalism and purity tests may be manipulating you. Don't fall for it! This isn't team sports. Especially on a hobby board where your defense may be down.

It's really not, you're just lacking context. Compare to France, which is on its fourth parliamentary government and third prime minister in a year.

At the core, he's made a very long list of promises with very short explanations of how he's going to make them happen. In general though, the NYC election was between him, a nonstarter Republican candidate, and an "I can't believe it's not a Democrat" Independent candidate that the electorate already hated.

Except they're not, you are making the mistake of thinking a loud minority online in any way reflects the people actually in charge of the Democratic Party. Most high-ranking dems are still old white people, did you forget about Joe Biden already?

It's a testament to the current state of adult animation that zoomers are completely baffled by a show made by libs also making fun of libs. It really is unthinkable now.

OP did also point out that it's weird that in practice, Quimby never actually seems to implement or even parrot liberal ideas, instead he often acts like a right-wing strawman, which is a good point.

True. But modern libs are also weirdly defensive of the Democrats as an institution. A lot of municipal dems are basically conservatives with nonwhite supporters but you can't point that out these days or you're helping heckin' blumpf win.

>the writer's are unashamedly biased yet still chose to represent a politician from their favored party as corruot and incompetent.

lol. Sam Simon and a bunch of Season 1 - 2 Simpsons writers were conservative Republicans. They made a Democrat the corrupt mayor because they were biased against Democrats.

He’s really not a right-wing strawman, just a generic “corrupt useless politician” strawman which can be either party.

Let’s imagine Springfield is one of those places where one party always wins no matter what, then a typical election (ie not the one Sideshow Bob was in) would not be about Republican vs. Democrat but something like Mamdani vs. Cuomo where the young socialist challenges the machine politician.

Mainstream TV has recently become weirdly partisan, especially on late night, where former comics like Colbert or Kimmel tell you not only that Republicans are bad (they are) but that Democrats are good, which no one under their age and income levels believe. The generic “politicians are mostly awful and only care about money and power” describes the world better.
