I like it when one character is monstrously powerful but kind and gentle of course, or highly possessive of another, and so inclined to gobble up others so they can't lose ahold of them.
I also rather like the symbiosis you mention. I have on occasion had ideas along those lines of preds with intimate relationships with others whom they swallow and can become somewhat empowered by. This also works really well for the rare nonfatal mass vore scenario, e.g. a character can become more and more powerful by combining their life with those of however many others are inside of their body. As much as I dislike Cell as a character he's a good example of this.
On the more negative side, some ideas I have had are more around the lines of full assimilation than symbosis per-se, but this also has the potential to be positive, e.g. deliberately choosing to be fused to a being who cares about you. In the negative instance, of course, being assimilated by such a being basically reduces you to a simple if still sapient part of it, but of course it's in charge and you aren't, while on the positive side this would ideally be something done with both sides' consent, which is quite rare and IMO pretty severely underrated.
