Because self inserters seek to be the center of attention for other people. It is about them, that is why they say "I am that hot babe now and soon I'll be this one". What they're trying to do is become the object of appeal to someone else. They want to become someone else's fetish, because they desire sexual admiration from them. They want to remove fiction, and either replace or corrupt it with reality. This takes away from what 'hentai' is; eastern drawn artworks, sometimes with voice acting, etc.
Why do I need to know it is you that is now the 'hot babe' you present yourself as? Why must it be you who gets swapped with them, and why must you become the protagonist of this story and this scene?
It's because of endless beauty, admiration, validation, godhood, appeal, privilage, wealth, power, etc. It's an omnipotence type of fetish. It is comparable with the usual desires people with narcissistic issues have, if that would be a fetish at least.
