The plight of the homeowner. Drain pump in the washer died.

Now that I have the washer and drier pulled out I might as well paint the walls. And fix the grout. And run a new outlet for the wall mounted cordless vacuum. And I should take this opportunity to build some pedestals for the washer and dryer since we decided we didn't like them stacked.

Guess my next 2 days off are booked

Got it disassembled. Took about 45 minutes. Followed a YouTube video. Waiting for the new motor to come tomorrow from Amazon. $30. Wish they just have us an easy access panel to reach this instead of disassembling the whole shit

Jesus.
I’ve replaced my lg drain pump 5 times so far.
All you do is tilt it up on a 45 deg angle from the side, and go under it and swap out the pump. Make sure you support it with something, those fuckers are heavy.
I can do it 30 minutes now.

There’s other options, too. You can just keep draining it manually through that tube, or even run the pump wires out externally and use an external pump. You could probably use a garden or fountain pump.

I believe it’s 60 W or so.

The first pump lasted the longest, all subsequent pumps only last a year or two. Made in italy.

They typically break due to a software bug where they don’t slow-start the pump sufficiently (or at all, sometimes) and the impeller breaks from the shaft.

I largely solved the breakage problem by putting some beefy resistors in series with the motor bolted to a heatsink to tone down the current a bit.

Except for the pump, everything has been pretty good.
Don’t let your wife goad you into paying extra for a stainless steel finish, mine is white, and it’s still mint after 15 years. Some of the stainless and chrome trim have pitted and/or turned green though.
Don’t use fabric softener.
Another problem is spinsense doesn’t do anything and if your wife tries to was a single unbalanced pillow the washer will try and walk across the floor, shake your hommade platform apart and damage other things in the area like the washbasin sink in a photonic induction kind of scene.

I hate this - been replacing hardwood planks since of termites, and it just highlights all the other shit that needs done.

I've also found I need to budget 3x my time estimate on every house project. I wish that eren't true, but even when I try and incorporate some extra padding.. that 3x rule seems to hold true.

What is a decent simple washing machine to get? I'm using some old ass one I got used, and it's great. I'm afraid when it breaks I'm afriad only thing available will be some dumb thing with an App and forced lo-water use.

Spinsense on my LGs has been working; the time to run spinny cycles extends if it starts to wobble, it seems like it stops, slowly rotates the clothes around, and starts again. This must usually fix it; I am aware of the process from a time when it was stuck in an infinite loop, constantly trying to rebalance an extremely unbalanced load that it couldn't fix. It just kept trying for at least an hour before I went in and rearranged the balled up blanket.

I got a second set of these LGs for another property because they've worked great for the last 6ish years.

>>2920264
With a good detergent and cycle yes, I've had nothing but problems for life with agitators, be it stuff getting caught in them and getting destroyed or messing up the machine, socks sucked into pumps, etc. I can't imagine clothes being so dirty that they need the agitator, and a front load just spins things and drops them to shake them around.

There’s a reason rock tumblers work where the cylinder is on it’s side like the drum in a front loading washer.

The debate was ended years ago, front loaders = cleaner

The problem i have with front loaders, other than i have no room to front load in my home, is that you can't stop it midway to toss a new piece of clothing or whatever you may want to do.
Modern washing machines are all electronic dials and you have little control over them.
I miss my oooold machine that had dias and i could make if go faster or slower and change modes.
New one there is NO way to make it just spit the water, refill and cycle, it WILL centrifuge before refilling and fuck you

Model? The drain pump will have a filter before it that can be used to drain the tub when removed. Normally accessible through a door on the front. Electrolux hides theirs requiring removing the front panel, because they hate consumers I guess, but it's there. Most other manufacturers are more sane and give easy-ish access.

My faggot dryer needs replacing due to this plastic trim being NLA. I've had it for years, replaced the belt and bearing twice. A new dryer is cheap, but not really repairable like this common model was.
