My brother's new house doesn't have a light in the living room, it just has that "every outlet on this wall is switched" bullshit, so we're gunna rewire the room and put in a ceiling light.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't drop this crown molding like 2-3" and run 110v LED strips on top of it for 'recessed' lighting around the entire room?

I too would like to try this one day, although I will point out that the image you posted is a 3D render with fake lighting, so it's way brighter than it would be in reality.

I hope you have a decent ceiling finish. You are going to highlight every flaw on it.

Bad idea, molding tends to not come up without damage to it and/or the wall.

You sound like you are way smarter than everyone else so I'm sure you can make it awesome.

Don't forget to duct tape the extension cord to the wall.

Your house will look like a hospital.
It won't age well.

That's retarded. There's a reason why they do that. You use lamps and you set them up in certain areas so you can better control light and ambience while using the area. You can also hook up literally anything to a switch, like a fan or a radio. One ceiling light with one switch is just reducing QoL and the value of your property. Also, if you're gonna do LED light strips, run them across the entire ceiling and put a strong diffuser over them so you eliminate shadows. Running strips in the corners for a fad is not gonna be worth ruining your crown.

I did this in an apartment that I was renting and I loved it. I had a dimmer so I could change the brightness too.
I'd like to do it where I live now (same dumb switched outlet setup), but I'm not sure how to make it look nice with how the walls are.

add some conventional ceiling lighting while you're at it

>dropping the crown
then use picture rail
