Make sure there is fuel in it. Use some of that two stroke premade. It costs more but fuck ethanol.
Prime it 3-10 times. Doesn't really matter since once the diaphram is full it'll just be pumped back to the tank.
Put it on choke and pull till it fires.
Switch to full with about half throttle.
If it dies, put on full then pull until it fires again.
Warm it up a couple seconds before going full throttle and working it.
This will start every small two stroke.

It will start with these instructions every time. As long as you are not retarded, and there is not something wrong with the whacker. Ethanol fuel rots the fuel lines on these and can cause all sorts of other problems like gumming up the carb. Both of these are user error.
I've had ethanol fuel rot the fuel lines on all of my power equipment to the point that I now go to a special gas station just to get ethanol free fuel for them and stopped having problems.
The really annoying one was the chainsaw and rebuilding the fuel system on it since the lines rotted off and the carb was gummed up.

No longer will I sit there in my front yard pulling on a string while the neighbors look on and laugh. No more will I prime, mix fuel and oil, spend way too much on premixed fuel and oil, take apart a carb smaller than my penis, mess with tiny set screws and adjustments, worry about old fuel, worry about fuel lines disintegrating, worry about stupid tiny little fucking fuel filters clogging, have to mess with spart plugs, have to check compression, have to rebuild the recoil starter, have to burn by thighs/side with hot exhaust, have to deal with the noxious fumes of 2 stroke exhaust, have to wear ear plugs because of how loud the stupid thing is, have to wear gloves due to the vibrations....
No... I simply put the bats in and go.... Bliss...

I have 6 Stihl string trimmers, 4 chainsaws, a backpack blower, and a post hole digger, and one husqvarna concrete saw. I run normal gas (probably 10% ethanol or some bullshit) and Stihl 2 stroke mix oil through them. Every single one of them will start up in ~ 3 pulls if you follow proper starting procedure.

Hell the last couple string trimmers I bought used for pennies on the dollar and I just went through them cleaning them up a bit and fixing a couple little things and they run like a top now. It's like no one even knows how to service anything anymore.

I've done nothing anyone in this thread recommends. I've had the same cheap Bohlens weed whacker, leaf blower, and lawn mower for 8 years. Least possible amount of maintenance done, regular ass gas at 10% ethanol, and whatever the cheapest oil is on the walmart shelf. I've never used premade because I'm not a fucking idiot willing to pay 10x for gasoline.

>half the posters are recommending and praising battery tools
Just say you don't understand 2 stroke engines. Its fine. They're easy to understand but difficult to master. Theres no shame in it, but don't blame the tool when the user is too dumb to use it.

Anything I have ever had that wasn't Stihl caused me problems with the carburetors. But most of that stuff also has those shitty foam air cleaners at best. I'm a firm believer that Stihl equipment has some of the best air filters systems on their stuff and it actually keeps the junk out and keeps you from having carb problems constantly.

No, no they are not. Had a cub cadet 4 stroke with the crankcase oil and hated that damn thing. I have a stihl 4 mix which is basically a 4 stroke that still runs on 2 stroke mix and doesn't have the crankcase oil reservoir to leak all over the place. It's ok. A bit more torque at lower rpms, but I still prefer 2 stroke string trimmers.

It isn't. My weed whacker, lawn mower, and leaf blower have never had their carbs removed or cleaned and they're going on year 8. I use 10% ethanol (regular 86 octane) fuel except when I put them away for storage.
1.Push fuel button 10 times or more. It doesn't matter and the machine isn't counting.
2. Full choke, hold the throttle wide open and pull like an adult man. You want crankshaft speed to suck fuel into the engine past the carb. This should only take 2-4 pulls before you hear/feel the engine almost try to start.
3. Half choke, open throttle, pull like a MAN again. When it turns over let it rev up a little but release throttle and let it idle for a few seconds, you may begin working.
4. After about 45 seconds (the machine doesn't know) it should be warm enough to turn the choke off.

Most pull start engines don't start people people don't pull with actual speed. They pull like they're gooning at hour 14 in an effort to reach the goal but never actually starting the engine.

I don't even do special maintenance; run it dry at the end of the season, put ethanol free fuel (with oil mix) in the tank. Start it for about a minute, clear out the lines of any ethanol fuel, top up the tank so theres as little air as possible. Leave the piston at TDC (some use preservation oil at this step too), air blow out the air filter, check the spark plug and maybe use a steel brush on it. Thats the secrets to all small engines.

Most issues are the impulse system, Some have a separate type that go straight to the head/crankcase. If the crank seals go bad or fall out this will also cause the impulse system to fail.

The gunk comes from the ethanol itself at that point. Sure the line won't break down from the ethanol, however that doesn't stop the ethanol from gunking up everything it passes through. If you drain the fuel system and fire up your device and run it until it dies from no fuel it will greatly reduce the maintenance you have to perform. Especially if you're going to be putting it away for the winter. For something you'll use regularly, just shut the fuel off if you can and let it run till it empties the bowl. For a weed whacker the best you can do is put only a little fuel in it and run it then empty the tank into a can when done then start it up till it runs out.
Alternatively, use ethanol free fuel.

I find for most burns they heal faster and blister less if I avoid the cold water or ice. The water or ice makes them feel better short term, but for this body is the wrong thing to do.

I find they do to like being left to sit, I have a feeling that once you turn it off, the fuel left in the carby evaporates and leaves behind residue of 2 stroke oil in the carby galleries, which goes hard in time and gums it up.

Lol. I bet you think the world will end before then anyways due to "global warming." Small gas engines will still be around and doing work long after your bullshit plastic electric crap falls apart and becomes the next hazardous waste to fill the landfills.

Gas is the ultimate retard filter.
>run it empty at the end of the season
>put gas in it
>just werks
I got my new lawn mower out of the trash, walked it back in flip flops, drained the water out the carb, had to clean it again because I didn't completely get all the corrosion out of the jets so it stuttered a bit a month afterwards. Second season, starts first pull, skill issue.

Already been said, but fresh fuel, probably carb clean too. I play with 2-stroke bikes and ethanol fuel is trash. The fuel works great for fuel injection but with carbs it gets all gummy and fucks the jets and flots and shit. Literally if it sits for 2 weeks here it starts to cause trouble.

Also I've found with sticky motors they would rather kill you with exhaust and noise than start cold. I leave mine in the sun for half an hour after taking it from the garage and then it starts in half the effort.

hmm. I probably didn't understand fuel delivery.

I get fuel/air/spark and always rip the cord, but mentally I'm just flip flopping "it's probably flooded" and "probably no gas in the cylinder." And the choke I'm pure guessing, that's why I'm successful being forced to follow the sticker.

So force feed fuel until engine hints at life. Half choke to start. Give it air and go to work.

I will try this on my three lawn tools and report back.

You basically by design cannot flood a 2 stroke small engine so stop worrying about conditions that cannot happen. You could push the primer bulb 50 times and it won't adversely effect starting it. You'll waste a little fuel but unless you're crazy nobody pushes it that many times. Some bulbs 10 is too few, and others 10 is pretty decent, they're shitty little bulbs so who knows.

I hope you gave it some practice and report back soon!

Sure thing chief, as soon as you show me where I said
>small engines will be a thing of the past in 10 years
I was being a bit hyperbolic but yes, dipshit, in 10-15 years it will be extremely unusual to find gas engines on new lawn equipment. Commercial lawn equipment may be more like 20-25. I never said they wouldnโ€™t exist. I never said anything about the engines themselves, my reading comprehension challenged friend. The average person will have no use for the knowledge to repair them, or someone who does.

The internal combustion engine is going extinct for the general public. You can all cry about it as loud as you want but itโ€™s going to happen anyway. Change is part of life so stop being a massive pussy about it.

I specifically said:
>Must really suck to be a wrenchlet that can't handle maintaining small engines.

You replied with:
>Wow thatโ€™s really impressive and in ten years that will be as useful as mechanical typewriter repair.

Which implies that in 10 years being able to repair a small engine will be a thing of the past. We can derive one of these things from this retarded statement. Either:

A) There will be practically no more small engines to work on in 10 years.
B) All small engines will be maintenance free within 10 years.
C) There will be no people left in 10 years to use or work on small engines.

All of which are inherently false and retarded, with the most likely scenario of those three actually being option C.

Nice backpedal. The average person doesn't own any heavy equipment either, so therefore being a heavy equipment mechanic is no longer a viable living come 2035 as well right? You see how retarded that sounds? You are an imbecile.

He could have also taken home all those gas powered weed-eaters and put some fresh fuel in them, maybe replaced a fuel line or two and cleaned the carb and 95% of them would have run and worked fine too.

This. My job is repairing turf equipment, and we're backlogged two weeks because people don't take care of their shit, and nobody wants to work as a mechanic.
The battery stuff is out there, but it's a joke once you get to dealing with lawns larger than a postage stamp. They are also a PITA to deal with when they inevitably shit the bed.

Check the carb diaphragm. It's always the diaphragm.
Also empty the fuel tank and carb if you're going to store the trimmer for more than 3 days.
