It strikes me as the sort of desoldering iron a homosexual might use.

It’s definitely the pro-ukrainian option.
But so is the edsyn soldapullt.
I’d go for the latter.

I have one and it works fine, but it is not very ergonomic.
My real complaint though is that the plastic tube is a big weak point. It will eventually crack from the heat and hot solder hitting it causing it to leak vacuum.
I like to line the inside of the tube with a few layers of kapton tape to help mitigate this, but it will still eventually fail. I've never seen anybody else mention this issue but I use mine a ton so maybe it's not something that happens with only light use.
Also, buy a bunch of filters as well as they clog after a while.

I have one. It's indespensible. Get the little drill stick thing to clear out clogs, clean it out regularly, and get an oval tip for anchors and you'll understand true happiness.

It does, you have to clean it out every now and then.
I use solder wick, too, but I usually get the bulk of the solder with the solder sucker.

Of course, usually I don’t use anything to remove a component if I don’t have to…

I use a bar tip, or wiggle the component off or out. Then I use a stainless steel dental pick to poke a hole back in while the solder is still molten (if need be) Saves time, solder, wick, cleaning, etc.

Some people think solder is magical and you can’t mix old/new, but you certainly can. In fact, more older is more better. There is lots of alloys out there which, themselves are random mixes of stuff….

Especially if you use chinese solder which probably includes lead from decommissioned nuclear plants.

i fried mine 2 weeks after buying one by accidentally plugging it into the wrong side of my inverter. for some reason my 240v->110v inverter also has a 240v output and so i think the motor is blown. have been looking for a replacement part for it but haven't had any luck thus far. great gun though

It's got big fat threads on it, you can't just turn it on a lathe. There was some talk that it might be not far off from a 3D extruder head. But I have a stockpile of them and recently got an FR-301 anyhow.

YOU can't. Be creative. Arent these tips made put of brass or copper, you could absolutely hand cut those with a die. You just need the right die and the right round bar. Then drill a hole through the middle, shaoe the tip and tin it.

NTA but I have 2 desoldering pumps, Goot TP-30 and Engineer SS-02, both are Japanese
I prefer the Goot one because it's easier to get the jobs done, not having to hold a soldering iron on the other hand, it helps a lot when you have tons of joints to desolder
SS-02 is good for what it is, but the other option is one-hand operation, and it's great
Also if you are a big guy with big hands don't by SS-02 or SS-03, they are too small
