I used a thick heated blanket (unplugged obviously) with zip ties to insulate the tube going from my AC to the window.
My window is near the ceiling, so the tube run is longer than optimal, so I determined that insulating it would improve the efficiency.
Is this a good idea or a fire hazard?

>inb4 dual hose is better
My window is too small for that

Picrel is not mine, but imagine something similar just with a much longer tube length.

I was looking at these a while ago and owners will tell you that insulating the pipe is mandatory. I can also tell you that they just aren't good and there's really nothing they do that a window unit doesn't do better, cheaper, possibly quieter.

Most definitely, I wouldn't be using it if my window were big enough for a window unit.

it would be better to just figure out how to make a dual pipe unit work on your small window than to fuck around with insulating the pipe

single pipe units just pull warm air from outside into the room

I've tried, they don't fit. Even Midea's combined dual hose will not fit.
The only way a dual hose setup would work is if I build my own custom bracket and air duct system to make it fit, which is way more work than I care to undertake for a 30% efficiency boost.
Insulating the tube, by contrast, is a 5 minute job.

> my window is smaller than 6x12โ€ because Iโ€™m living in a cell under solitary confinement, but thereโ€™s a hole where they put food through once or twice a day. Oddly, they give us full and unfettered access to the internet, and I can buy whatever I want off Amazon and the prison just pays for it

it would take 5 minutes to make a couple holes in a piece of cardboard

Yep, only use one if zero other options. It has to be insulated and dual hose modded if its not already.
t. finnfag and no window units here, only now after a few scorchers are we getting better stuff and I used singlehose for years and it does nothing, its like using your fridge to cool the house lol

Insulate and mod dual hose and its a big worthwhile improvement, trust me.

How big is your window? Can you measure it? Can you take a picture?

To answer your actual question, you can insulate the hose with whatever you want and it will help. I wrapped mine in bubble wrap and some Mylar and it did make a fairly significant difference. Window units will always kick way more ass, to the point i would plan to knock out a hole for one eventually, but warping the exhaust wont kill you or cause a fire.

I would ideally. Either hose is going to radiate.
