So I figured this might be the best place to ask even though its not exactly /diy/ just /diy/ adjacent? Anyway.

I'm looking at buying some land I found that has river frontage. Already has a site cleared and set for a mobile home. I'd like to stay in maybe a RV for a couple years while I get the land paid off but the county dosn't exactly allow it. (You can stay 3 weeks then you have to leave for 3 weeks.) But far as I can tell it isn't really enforced. Anyone delt with a similar situation? I can keep my address at my sisters house which is in the same county anyway and just hope they don't check? Its a pretty secluded area gravel road kinda deal. How would they even know? Utility usage maybe?

The other option would be a 2nd hand mobile home, but moving them cost a fortune.10-20k. Unless anyone knows how to get a permit to move one myself? I got a truck big enough for it.

Whos got experience with this shit?

First thing to check is if the land passes perk tests so you can put in a septic system. A lot of time land that's real close to water has problems with this due to the high water table.

It all kinda depends on how good you are at threading needles.

River=floodplain=high insurance/expensive septic, if even allowed (mound)

Was there a trailer? Or just a clearing?

Its a feel for the area thing. I think due to the prevalence of vanlifers and tiny houses and adus and such its probably a little harder to start and hide in plain sight.

Its not about not breaking the rules. Its about doing it in a way where no one cares and just lets you be.
I bought land 12 years ago, finished my septic last week. Glad to be on the right side of the rules, even tho no one really seemed to care when I wasnt

They only enforce those rules on people they are mad at. I have a rural home doing exactly what you are doing and the RV has been there for years with no issue. A neighbor out there is a tweaker who gets into squabbles with the neighbors, they've called the county on him. Of course, since the law is 'no mobile homes' he took the axles off his main RV and put it on some blocks and said 'now it isn't mobile' and that's held out, but you shouldn't have to play code-battle with the county jannies if you don't piss anyone off.

Also, being in a 'luxury RV' I must say they're terribly designed on the whole and make little sense in a semi-permanent installation state, it's just the easiest option.

No , but the laws for camping on the land won’t apply. If living on your boat is ok, it doesn’t matter if the boat doesn’t move much.
