I just want to BITCH about SMALL ENGINES

All I'm trying to do is clean out the carburetor on my fuckin lawnmower. Easy job, right? Guess again! Been nothing but bullshit start to finish, strange fluids all over me, and just when I thought I was done, putting everything back together, this tiny little spring falls out of dark space. Never seen it before. I checked diagrams, watched yt vids, anything to find where this fucking spring is supposed to go, but there's nothing.

FUCK IT. I'm just gonna put it back together anyway and if it fucks up then I'll burn it

Buy a new carb and stop leaving shitty ethanol fuel in there over the winter. Problem solved,

That wasn't the problem. I drained it 9 months ago, until I needed it again.

I can fix a normal engine no problem, even a chainsaw (small engine) but something about mowers and weedwackers and such is just awful

Good news, the mower runs fine without that tiny spring. Mowed both yards. It may be Friday the 13th, but I think it'll be fine.

i cleaned my lawnmower carb this Spring, just blasted it with carb cleaner. Slapped it back together, got some new oil in the thing, a little MMO in the oil and in the first tank of gas. Fucking thing starts up first pull every time now.
Of course it's a weak piece of shit that chokes up if the grass is more than 4'' high and is like the lowest budget option but it runs at least.

I never cleaned the carburetor in my Honda lawnmower in 20 years. It works like a new one. Let me guess, your lawnmower is powered by Briggs & Stratton.

Nobody cleans small engine carbs anymore. Just buy a brand new one for less than $20 shipped from Amazon. Slap in on and it'll run like new. Fuck taking them apart. If you really want to keep the old carb, submerge it in CarbDip to clean it. when that doesn't work replace it.

Looks like a return spring to me, does the throttle close on its own when you open it and let go?

I didn't clean the outside just the inside. Why would I waste time cleaning the outside of it?

My job is working on lawn equipment. Unless it's something old and the customer wants to throw money at it, we just replace carbs. A lot of stuff, you can't even get internal carb parts. You can only get the entire carb as a replacement assembly.

When the hair spring on your governor linkage wears out, it'll start "bootstrapping", where it bounces in RPM when not under load. The hair spring and the return spring work in concert with the governor tension to keep the RPM's steady.l
