This is my new shed. Ideally I don't want to spend a fortune on more concrete. What are some cost effective options to reduce the sand coming inside the shed? We're entering winter, so getting a bunch of grass to grow isn't going to happen soon.
It's coming in from being tracked in by feet and tires?
how about a big rug
landscaping fabric
a layer of gravel
>>2924222Yes
Probably not doing a big rug lol
Landscaping fabric ideal
Gravel is a good one, considering there's no driveway to the shed, I had planned on eventually doing it.
>>2924224Landscaping fabric isn't ideal*
>>2924220 (OP)A small paver area before the front door
>>2924226I have considered pavers, but I think they would very quickly get covered in sand, leading to my conundrum of tracking it inside again
>>2924227you'd have the exact same issue if you put a pad down. sounds like you just need to sweep your shed more often
>>2924220 (OP)Dig out the area a bit and put in a deck.
At least pour a small slab in front of the walk in door and the garage door. You can always expand the exterior concrete at a later date. Put a metal grate in front of the walk in door to scrape off your boots and maybe a boot brush as well.
>>2924233It is out of the water, on those pads.
Maybe someone local is throwing away carpet.
>>2924220 (OP)concrete slab and a brush
You either spend money on this or you spend time sweeping, but you aren't gonna get away without sweeping, so get some good brooms. I like them corn brooms and a big, long bristled push broom. The best brooms, however, are those asian style long bristle fan brooms. Those shits are *the* best broom for moving material across the floor without kicking up dust. They just suck at filling a dust pan. A high quality commercial door mat on the inside will do a ton of work for you. They're made so absolutely every little thing gets stuck in them. Even better if you have one inside and outside. You definitely get what you pay for with these. A little concrete pad that you put in is gonna be cheap as fuck. Pavers cheaper. Probably cheaper than a good door mat, too. You just need something to hold a mat steady and flat right outside the door. Some gravel surrounding a pad of some kind will help even more, you could even embed cedar pickets in the ground on the perimeter to hold the gravel together.
>>2924220 (OP)Those grate things you put grass in and can drive on, not sure what theyโre called in English. Even if they donโt grow grass the sand gets compacted in the holes and stops moving. Burying an old drain grate works as well
Unironically buy some cheap robovac that runs every night at 2AM. It'll work better than you think
>>2924220 (OP)Gravel, but you should do gravel retaining grid with it.
Unbelievably superior to just tossing down some gravel.
Just get an electric leaf blower, one of those welcome mats for cleaning shoes(with the hard bristles) and a baseball bat so whenever someone doesn't use the mat you can beat them to death.
>>2924237yo, a concrete apron around the building reduces both root lift and water infiltration. You could dig a moat and build a bridge.
>>2924756>Unironically buy some cheap robovac that runs every night at 2AM. It'll work better than you thinkHmm... do they make industrial/commercial quality roombas? Maybe I'll have to invest in one for my shop.
>>2924800Not bad, anon. It'll help keep rats out, too.
>>2924907Better than fine. I've seen those little bastards swimming in lakes before.
>>2924907>a concrete apron around the building>Rats swim just fineWhat did he mean by this?
I don't understand the situation, could you make a birds eye view drawing, including the house, path and the shed itself?
>>2924979He's referring to the stone foundation thread where anon said,
>On a long enough timeline everything behaves like liquidThis means the rats, who are good swimmers, will be able to swim through the concrete apron, given enough time.
>>2924979>>2925062He's obviously referring to the moat you fucking retards.
>>2924226>>2924525>>2924766this, this or this
also extend the gutter drain away from the foundation
>>2924220 (OP)A couple pavers a pair of floor mats both outside and inside. The sand is stuck to your shoe and relased when you step on the mats.
Get some steel open grid decking.
>>2925163Damn. Not OP, but that's a good idea.
>>2925098Why does the moat go into the structure?
>>2924220 (OP)>What are some cost effective options to reduce the sand coming inside the shed?dig out the sandy area, lay some blocks for a border, throw down pickerel and fill it with gravel
