Has anyone used one of these stupid things
>fill input hose with water and get air out
>attach 10ft hose to input and 25ft hose to output
>Keep hoses straight as I can
>power on
>motor hums and input hose vibrates
But nothing happens

Either you still have an air pocket/air leak or your suction hose is collapsing and pinching off.

How can I not have air in the hose when I have to raise it out of the water to connect it? Am I retarded?

Is it a self priming pump? If its not self priming you have to prime it e,g. With a manual bilge pump at the output to draw water into the impeller housing get it started

Prime it in by siphoning water in.

Submerge the input hose in pool to fill it with water, fold/pinch it somewhere, take one end out then connect it and put it below the water level, check that water comes out, then remove the fold, connect the output side and run the pump

Are you seriously claiming that that isn't a spot lower than the edge of the pool anywhere nearby?

Yes. I don't know if you're ever seen a pool but they are usually surrounded by concrete which is flat.

Those things suck to use. Buy a submersible pump and save yourself a lot of frustration, you just drop it in the pool and it works.

>But nothing happens
Fill with water as best yo can.
Connect wet-dry shop-vac to output hose
Turn pump and shop-vac on
When water starts filling shop-vac, disconnect it from output hose

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ profit!
