hmm i worry that the rust on the iron dust will release oxygen feeding itself into a self propagating fire. not something that will be easy to put out, take precautions.

Won't happen unless in the presence of a more easily oxidised material (aluminum). That's how you get thermite.

Some resins bind by oxidation, though. If he's using one of those, the resin will polymerize much quicker than it's supposed to, and instead of the ~30°C you'd expect, might heat up enough to ignite.
