Where online can I learn about different construction materials used historically to build homes in my area of the world? I've been asking ChatGPT with photos from real estate listings to tell me about the architectural history but there must be a more systematic way for any given city.

Sure there is. Ask someone that works on buildings in the area. There's likely someone around there that specializes in repairing old construction. Ask them to name the most common types of traditional construction in the area. Visit a local library and then ask them if they have any books on the subject matter. Hell, they might actually know a decent amount about the first question as well as the second.
