Friend of mine has a small job shop, solo operation from his shed. Still uses his little Hercus to do real work, easier than setting up the big lathe for little jobs.

theyre great little machines that are fully capable albeit a little slow and low powered for carbide. done thousands of dollars in odd jobs on mine over the years

This. It will be useable for small jobs, in fact it would be preferred over a large lathe for the small jobs. While not a vintage lathe by any means, I have a 9x20 Jet lathe that cranks out small parts quite well for me.
