Been digging a lot of holes lately for plants and it's torn up the skin on the inside of my thumbs. What are some good gloves to help with this? I think like gel padding inside the finger joints would be good, at least in between the thumb and index finger.

Ideally something waterproof too like with a nitrile coating I could easily spray off, since I pick out a lot of rocks and my current gloves (pic related) get all muddy and sopping wet.

Leather is the best material. Lasts the longer and weeds and stuff don't stick to it too much.
Are you digging by hand?

People use extra long goatskin gloves for shit like roses and blackberries. Regular cowhide leather gloves are perfect for normal gardening and landscaping. Synthetic/composite materials make for shitty gardening gloves. It's not really just about the glove, but also in how you use your hands.

Waterproof gloves are gonna be a swamp to work in all day. Best to carry around a pair of water resistant nitrile dipped work gloves or something if you don't want your leather gloves to get wet. Those leather gloves you have are beyond shit, btw. Get better ones.

Plant hole auger for your drill. Costs $20 and lasts forever, if you hit a small rock hold it sideways a bit and itโ€™ll push the rock out

Won't work, my soil is filled with huge rocks, everywhere. I tried one and it broke, right at the part where it connects to the drill chuck.

I managed to avoid it by putting bag balm on it under a bandage, but yeah it probably would have.

I ordered these chinkshit gloves, the cotton lining looks like it might help. I would like something with like a slippery gel lining inside so I could moisturize my hands and they'd glide around, secured by a wrist strap, but I don't think it exists. Still the cotton looks better than rawhide.

Stop being a pussy.
If you're gonna work with soil, digging holes and shit, your hands are gonna be hurt and with time they will toughen and so will your skin. If your girlfriend or boyfriend complains, tell them you're fucking tarzan.
I was cutting a pine tree to small pieces a few days ago and right now my hands feel like they are made out of wood

The older people I was working with that day, told me that it comes out with a little bit of olive oil. I didn't try it because I stopped caring about the resin at some point.
But yeah, it sucks to feel sticky

I was clearing my property during COVID, hand sanitizer gets pitch/resin off. I even used it on cloths, no oil stains either.

i think that is your issue, maybe try more layers, like an under glove than a protective glove. in the sunglasses industry they use a fabric glove than a rubber glove, it reduces discomfort.

Yeah I was looking for under gloves, there's not much that looks appropriate. Maybe I'm cockblocked by AI that can't figure out what I'm looking for, the only results are either winter glove liners or eczema gloves. Something like a tight fitting (but not compression) nylon fingerless glove would probably work.

I think next time I'll try silicone scar tape. Wrap it around my lower thumbs. Taking a break from digging during the heat wave but I still have 4 holes to go.

hmm i recommend roman techniques.
Drain it, Light a fire and Quelch with ice water. the thermo-shock should crack it worst case it pops while heating, but it is underground so bring the family over for smores lots of smores will take a while to get the rock hot.

Well the big rock is where I started digging. I moved over to create an acceptable hole next to it. Half my yard is filled with these immovable boulders, but it's probably good for like, not getting sinkholes and such. Very poorly drained soil. But the plant I put there is red twig dogwood which likes wet areas so it's okay.

Vermont gloves, they not cheap but it will last you a very long time. There is a reason why no stores have them for sale because they would ratcher sell $25 pair of gloves to you that is junk and will fall apart in couple weeks, plus almost all of them contain chemicals. Goodluck anono
