call me crazy, but this looks about perfect for world roaming but mostly "floating condo" live aboard.

Make hull out of long narrow strips of welded steel. I like how its got separate elevated interior on each end of main deck for "home/office" or "office/workshop" etc.

20ft beam at main deck so you could carry a car on deck to roll off when tied up to pier.

Looks like adding an engine and big prop would be easy. Sails and Yardarms would make nice tenting or even trampoline for extra living area.

Just a few more modern features like Roller Yardarms for short handed sailing.

Probably need to bump up the headroom a bit from original, but still lots of living space for modest 100ft OAL for cheap docking.

These were designed to cross oceans and weather any storm.

A boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into. A *ship* is that times 10.

yes, but I'm mostly thinking of "compared to other boat options"

it will never go out of style and could be rented or chartered to not just party parties but for filming.

maybe you'd get mooring freebies as a tourist attraction if you keep the looks authentic at least from a distance.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, Who died for our sins and rose from the dead to give us the free gift of eternal life. He also promises to heal your body. You can ask Jesus for His gifts.

Yea a guy did this before, but with a folded sheet metal hull. Forgot his name, but he did it with a truck load of side quests and a pretty mediocre understanding of mechanics and hydrodynamics

> could be rented or chartered
Don’t know where you are but it’s not easy to get a diy boat insured for anything other than leisure or research. Charter boats need inspections and it gets expensive fast

>Charter boats need inspections and it gets expensive fast

Interesting, how much we talking if such a vessel was built to legit standards, with Passing Inspections baked into to the project, by a real boat yard in Thailand or similar?

Does it got to be 'Merican 'spected during the building process?

I'd figure on 'spected for at least 50 people for wedding/diner/booze cruise/dive/fishing/sleep over type charter.

What about ops of same in Mexican or Cuban waters, or "Port of origin"?

Can I pick up a load of Gringos just south of the border at San Diego then set a northy course and into San Diego harbor and pick up more Gringos, maybe from another boat without touching dry land?

Can I sell and charter package in Mexico in pesos then sail to USA to pick up "crew"?

Doug Jackson, from SV Seeker. He had some major fuckups. The folded hull ended up slightly kinked and he was WAY off with the lead ballast - the "simple" engine room project blew way the fuck up and completely changed the balance points and he couldn't remove the poured-lead ballast.

I think you are vastly underestimating the amount of bodies you need in order to sail and maintain a ship of that size.

>>2925726
A wooden ship is going to be signficantly more expensive than an equivalent fiberglass vessel, not less. Both in construction costs and upkeep costs.

That's silly, it could be done easily with his on-board torch

Google CG form 3752. IIRC it has references to all the relevant guidelines on there. <6 customers no inspection, 6-12 every 5 years, 12+ yearly. Note the rules say paying customers specifically, which is an opportunity for fraud if you insist

If you import the boat and it was inspected elsewhere you MAY get around the initial COI inspection (they’ll just trust the foreign inspectors on a lot of stuff) but probably not mexico or thailand.

> Does it got to be 'Merican 'spected during the building process
You can get some inspections done before the boat is finished, but it’s not required. If you complete the boat before asking them for the first time, they’ll find some structural flaw you can’t fix easily

I'm half sure that counts as human trafficking.

This seems as good a thread as any, what happened to that boomer schizo who built his own "research boat", and why aren't there threads on him anymore?
