hello! so i have this 2 water valves (one feeding a toilet). i need to be able to open/close them and i not sure because they only seem to have the head of a screw on the top. im used to the ones that have a square where you install a handle. here its just a screw.
its hard to describe by words and thats why i did this picture, hope it clears the idea a bit.

so the question is, if i just turn the screw, will i be able to open/close it? or will i just end opening the shaft (hope im using the right words). whats the logic in this systems? getting the screw out and installing a new whaft (or system for handle?) thanks!

No logic. I've never seen such a valve without a square, spline, or keyway. But go ahead and turn screw. Maybe it will work. The worst that will happen is screw will come out. Then you'll have to replace valve anyway. Good luck finding just a new shaft that fits.

the screw drives a ball valve inside.
turning the screw 90 degrees moves from fully on to fully off
normally when the line of the screw is lined up with the path of water through the body, the valve is fully open. when the screw head is across the water path the valve is closed.

this valve is closed. hence no water. turn the screw 90 degrees in either direction will open the valve. 180 will close the valve again
the screw will rotate endlessly and cannot be removed accidentally.

if you want to add a handle you will require a new valve.

these are normally used in situations where the owner doesn't want peple fucking with their valves randomly, requiring a tool cuts that down
hosebibs outside stores are often the same action
