If you could only have one of these two โ€“ a gooseneck prybar and the kind with a handle with a strike face โ€“ which would you take and why?

Assuming same length and quality level.

Gooseneck; sometimes you just can't fit the other side in certain scenarios and vice versa. Also, just because it doesn't have dedicated strike face doesn't mean you can't hammer a gooseneck as wellโ€”might mar the surface a bit but who gives a fuck it's just a piece of thick ass steel

my trusty old 36" snappy prybar is probably my single most used tool. its a favorite old friend and gets to ride around everywhere with me in the pickup

Of those two i would take the one with the handle and strike cap. I use that style way more than the traditional gooseneck crowbar. I use those alignment pry bars sold at harbor freight and spud bars even more frequently than the handled pry bars though. Every pickup I drive has a couple of those alignment pry bars and at least one big spud bar with a tamping head for setting railroad tie fence corners.

Why would I do that? Youโ€™re not my lit professor

Iโ€™ll take the extendable like 30โ€-42โ€ indexing pry bar instead

I got a couple of those gearwrench brand extendable indexing prybars at an auction. $17 for the pair of them. Thought that was a decent score.

The harbor freight pry bars with handle set is pretty shit. These bend very easily. Currently wasting space in my box.

this. different bars do different shit well. i personally love pinch bars for moving and rigging machines. nothing else gets under edges as well and they have the best leverage ratio
die settings bars are nice for moving bucket pins and tight quarters work where you need to pry something up out of a hole
there is no universal bar

Agreed. I pretty much buy every used spud bar I can find at a decent price. Hell I bought two more last week... Have a whole pile of extra ones. They'll get used someday.
