Are korean appliances generally garbage? I'm looking for a new washer. I hear any korean appliances dealing with water are trash.

Can you read reviews? Are you able to ignore the absolute best and the absolute worst ones? Try that. Report back.

LG currently makes the most statistically reliable front loader washing machines. There's your answer.

Maytag and Whirlpool are worse in regards to replacement part prices and repairability.
The only issue I ever had with my Samsung washer was because the water from my well had too much aggregate in it and clogged the cold water solenoid valves. Replacing them was easy and cheap.
Had horrible problems with GE, Bosch, and Whirlpool appliances of various types. Bosch stoves in particular are crap, but their dishwasher's are great, but Samsung offers a better warranty.
LG has had some specific models of washers and dryers that had main circuit board recalls though, so make sure to look at reviews for the ones you are considering.

I would avoid front load, speed queens are great, but often sold with a retail facing controls.

Definitely this. I am a professional Korean appliance installer, as well as a service technician. I'm here to tell you that all Korean appliances that involve water in their use are total garbage. You should run as far and as fast away from them as possible.

I'm here to tell you that I've never had any trouble with any Korean appliance that involves water in their use, in fact they are exemplary. You should go purchase one immediately, if not sooner.

If you want a washing machine, you want a Speed Queen. Google the brand. Stay the fuck away from Samsung.

somehow I ended up with some sort of semi-pro washer made for apartments or something. It was made in the 90s, I got it used but almost new.
they don't make anything like they used to

I had a rental with sneed queens earlier this year and they fucking sucked. Didn't clean well, didn't dry well, and were absolutely brutal on clothes. They're probably great for the landlord since they're reliable and low-maintenance but as a user they absolutely blow.

In japan, the laundry mat charges an equivalent of about $12 USD to do a load of laundry.

Might me some truth to that.
I has a samsung refrigerator that had all the components under the condenser made from steel and rusted.

On the other hand i also had a US made delta kitchen faucet that rusted (and was recalled). My dad didn’t even understand that one, he’s like “no way” until I showed him a picture of it.

Seems to me, all manufacturers are continually testing the water to see what they can get away with. Get caught, pull back from those ideas for a while, then forget, and explore new enshitification ideas again.

Knock on wood my basic lg 10 year old front load washer and 7 year old dryer are both running flawlessly, only issue I've ever had was the position sensor went out on the washer last year but it was a $15 45 minute fix.

Just don't go for Miele. My parents swore to it and I became best friends with the mechanic.
I personaly went with AEG and it has been going stron for 17 years. Replaced it recently since it did sound like it was going to die soon.

their washer/dryer combos are particularly trash now especially after they discontinued their larger models. a lot of them are designed for european housing but sold worldwide, where in europe many don't have dryer vents and tend to wash small number of clothes.

ventless dryers are just trash in general. My current house is built into a hillside and the laundry room is underground, so not only is the dryer ventless but I think it's also electric (it was here when I moved in and they make identical ones in both electric and gas so I'm not 100% sure), and it sucks despite being a really expensive almost new Electrolux unit. It takes like 2 hours to adequately dry a decent-size load.
