How do you like my improved electric fly swatter prototype /diy/?
https://streamable.com/2t7syp

It uses a simple chinese stepup module that produces ~30kV from a 9V battery (~1 cm spark-gap at STP). No more stunned houseflies, now they explode on contact, and mosquitoes are instantly vaporized.

Also, the commercial ones like pic related are based on a single unprotected electrolytic capacitor, they always fry in a matter of weeks and you need to throw them and buy a new. Not so with my improved model, this one will last.

it's a prototype of course, not much of a looker i know, just a proof of concept.
I bet with a 3D printer etc it could be more to look more esthetic. I don't want shitty plastic buttons tho, it must be sturdy like the old timey gear.

Also the 9V battery drains fast. A USB rechargeable high power 9V battery from aliexpress would be a better choice then replacing it every week.

whats all that hissing? corona discharge? if so, you need to be very careful using it around sensitive electronics, it'll fry them just by being near the damn thing. also you might be losing a not insignificant amount power to discharge, try to clean up any sharp edges that electrons can fly off of.

other than that looks solid anon, way to shape the world in your image.

I like it! The design is very human.

I suspect the hissing is due to the fact that hes maintaining an arc at all times where no discharge in the business end happens.

>remove output foil cap from broken swatter
>add it in parallel with the output cap in a working one
>remove bleed off resistor
Here, I just improved a normal one with minimal work

yeah no, just some ion wind, not enough silent discharge to produce toxic levels of ozone, which btw you would certainly smell, little chemlet

No bleed off resistor means that your swapper will remain charged even when switched off, which will cause many accidental zappings. It's not the first time I do this.

Sometimes I have to straighten the metalwork a bit or you get points of discharge when you click it on, but it kinda cool and I swear it scares the flies and mosquitoes shitless. I believe in giving a fair warning first, even to insects.

Can you demonstrate something getting yeeted? Find a large spider or drop a chunk of steak on it.
