I put down a small field of red wheat back in October just to see what I could potentially get out of it for funsies. Anyways, the wheat is ready to harvest, and I SEVERELY underestimated my crop yield. I was figuring I'd get like 20 pounds of wheat kernels maximum, but boy was I wrong... I've got like 2 bushels of wheat I have to harvest before the crops go bad and I'm running on borrowed time here. I checked some local ag equipment rental stores and family farms, and the only things they have are full-sized combines and tractors, which cost upwards of $1K a day to rent out. Moreover, I have no clue how to use a combine. How the hell do I harvest all this by hand and what tools do I need to buy to make this happen?

Just use that small thing that looks like a scythe. If you weren't a faggot, I'd recommend you an actual scythe since real men can lift all that wheat withiut dropping it on the ground.

You have sewn, now you must reap. use a big scythe but they are expensive, or get a small crescent sickle and be the poor peasant you know you are. Bundle and tie up to dry.

You could use a knife but it would be miserable.

This seems a little different to a standard scythe, I only see one handle.
What's the purpose of that pale wooden part with the gnarly steel hook on the end you've got the scythe propped on?

Scythe acquired.
I will post an update after the harvest.
Wish me luck!

Just looked on Craigslist and couldn't find a Scythe.

May have to visit local Menonite Commune and See what they'd take in Trade.

If you aren't doing a huge area then you can use a sickle or a slashing hook.
It won't be as quick, easy or as clean an aftermath but it'll get ya done.

What size is your patch?

It's 44,000square feet

Was thinking of Goats but those Assholes are picky and fuck up shit. I'll look into the devices you suggested

Pro Tip. never get into a relationship with a Menonite Jawn. Communicating via Snail Mail is the worst, especially when they check and monitor what she sends and recieves.

So an acre?
That's only two bushel's an acre of grain, seems kinda low unless you've got a lot of weeds.
You'll want to clean your grain to sift out the weed seeds and other contaminants. How are you planning to thresh it?

Actually this might be a little extreme but it may be doable if you don't care for the straw. You could simply yank off the seed heads by hand
It would save you having to thresh it at least. Depends what you want to do with the straw.

Sorry for the lack. of the english terms but in short:
It is a reaping hook and a type of sickle / scythe. Compared to a scythe it is slower when mowing a given area. But it makes up for it by being more ergonomic which induces less fatigue and is effectively faster when harvesting grain because the technique preserves the orientation of the stalks and grains, making for a shorter overall processing time.

Have you tried maize/corn? easy enough to harvest and you can just throw dried cobs to the chooks.

Currently in the works

Back in the old country we harvested corn to great extent

Corn Kernel processor (Manually Driven)
Grain Grinder (Manually Driven)
Grain Miller (Manually Driven)
Best Corn tortillas and "frosted flakes" around when you yourself pick the ear and take it through the process all the way through

did you take soil samples to a specialised lab b4 planting plants intended for consumption?
or did you deliberately ignore that they spray the soil the last 35 years with heavy metals (chemtrail clouds even in ops pic) and other diabolical poison?

This, or child labour
School holiday's exist for harvest season and its time to take in the grain, mind you it still needs to be threshed and separated. You can make a grain flail pretty easy but the basket and chaff-sorting takes a fair bit of skill.

>chemtrails

They're called contrails you illiterate schizo, and they're composed of the same stuff that you see coming out of a car's exhaust on a cold winter day. I wish I could convince every one of you that eating hemlock "cleanses the body of toxins" as a personal gift from me to the future of the human genome.

>They're called contrails you illiterate schizo
contrails and chemtrails literally look and behave differently.
contrails are just condensation and evaporate quite quickly
chemtrails are high altitude atmospheric spraying, you can watch them stay in the sky for hours
